Primary objective
Provide integrated delivery of family and child support services across the region under the Families and Regional Services Division
responsible for Child Protection and Youth, Family Support; Carer Support, Placements; and Business Support.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Responsible for the delivery of case work and case management services to clients, including the management of more complex cases
requiring liaison with other agency and non-government organisations.
2. Maintain a high level of services to clients through the provision of professional expertise and demonstrated best practice in the
delivery of statutory child protection.
3. Undertake statutory responsibilities, exercise delegations under the Care and Protection of Children Act in accordance with
departmental policies and procedures.
4. Provide support, training, and education to staff on program and practice issues to enhance their skills, knowledge and understanding
of programs.
5. Ensure the availability of reliable data through the accurate and timely recording of information on the Territory Families client
information and case management systems.
6. Participate in the Territory Families After-hours Service.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree of an Australian tertiary institution, which gives eligibility for membership of the Australian Community Workers Association,
the Australian Association of Social Workers, or the Australian Psychological Society, or equivalent OR Diploma of Child, Youth and
Family Intervention AND Vocational Graduate Certificate in Community Services Practice (Statutory Child Protection) OR Graduate
Certificate in Safe Communities (Child Protection).
2. Extensive experience commensurate with the duties of the position, including highly developed professional skills in conducting
strength-based assessments, developing and delivering effective interventions, and a demonstrated capacity to apply best practice
principles.
3. Significant experience working within a legislative framework, a demonstrated ability to interpret and apply complex legislation.
4. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team setting.
5. Highly developed oral, written communication skills, including developing and delivering formal and informal training for staff and the
preparation of court reports.
6. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures, including a demonstrated knowledge and understanding
of Aboriginal culture, family, and community structures.
7. High level organisational skills including the ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and contribute to the professional
development and learning needs of colleagues.
Desirable
1. Five years relevant experience including at least six months experience of child protection work and at least six months experience of
working with children in care.
2. Current Northern Territory drivers’ licence or the ability to obtain.

• The remuneration package for a Child Protection Practitioner at the Professional 2 level is $109,860 - $130,643 (including salary
$92,910 - $110,781).
• In addition, a Child Protection Market Allowance of $8,820 per annum applies to this position, as per Determination 1019 of 2022.
• The selected applicant will be required to hold a current Working with Children Clearance notice and undergo a criminal history check
(a criminal history will not exclude an applicant from this position unless it is a relevant criminal history).
