Painting is a key component of our maintenance services, and our projects often require specialised knowledge beyond conventional residential painting.
Our team undertakes a diverse range of commercial maintenance and painting projects, including surface preparation, protective coatings, internal and external painting, safety and traffic-related line marking, and maintenance works carried out within active commercial environments.
Due to the technical nature of our projects and the requirements of our commercial clients, we are seeking an experienced Painter who can confidently undertake both general painting duties and specialised commercial painting and line-marking work while complying with Australian workplace and safety standards.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Painter at UTIC PTY LTD, you will be responsible for carrying out professional painting, coating, surface preparation and line-marking works across commercial maintenance projects.
This role requires more than general painting experience. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate practical experience working within commercial sites where strict safety procedures, access requirements, line-marking specifications and client-specific compliance standards apply.
The position may involve working at heights, operating specialised line-marking equipment, preparing and painting high-traffic commercial areas, and completing works within operational retail and commercial environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
● Prepare surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, scraping, removing existing coatings, filling holes and cracks, and applying appropriate primers and sealers.
● Apply paint, varnish, stains, protective coatings and other finishes using brushes, rollers, spray equipment and other appropriate application methods.
● Mix and match paints and coatings to achieve required colours, finishes and specifications.
● Perform internal and external painting works across commercial and maintenance projects.
● Carry out line-marking works in areas such as car parks, pedestrian zones, loading areas, safety zones and other commercial environments.
● Set up, operate and maintain line-marking machines and associated equipment.
● Use commercial line-marking templates, stencils and layout equipment to accurately apply letters, numbers, symbols, directional markings, safety markings and other specified floor markings.
● Prepare surfaces and accurately measure and position markings prior to the application of line-marking materials.
● Interpret project specifications, plans and site requirements to ensure line markings are correctly positioned and completed to the required dimensions and standards.
● Ensure line-marking works are completed in accordance with applicable Australian requirements, site specifications and client compliance standards.
● Undertake painting and maintenance activities at heights where required, using appropriate access equipment and following relevant working-at-heights procedures.
● Protect surrounding surfaces, fixtures, merchandise, equipment and pedestrian areas using masking materials, drop sheets and appropriate barriers.
● Work safely within active commercial and retail environments while minimising disruption to clients, employees and members of the public.
● Inspect completed work and undertake touch-ups or corrective works where necessary to ensure a high-quality finish.
● Maintain painting, spraying and line-marking tools and equipment in safe and effective working condition.
● Follow workplace health and safety procedures, Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), site induction requirements and client-specific safety procedures.
● Coordinate with supervisors and other team members to ensure projects are completed efficiently and within required timeframes.
● Communicate professionally with clients and site representatives regarding work requirements, access and project progress.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The successful applicant will have:
● A minimum of 1 year of relevant professional painting experience, preferably within commercial, industrial or property maintenance environments.
● Relevant trade qualification in painting and decorating, such as an AQF Certificate III in Painting and Decorating, or equivalent relevant qualification and/or experience.
● Demonstrated experience in surface preparation and the application of paints, coatings and finishes.
● Practical experience using professional painting tools, spray equipment and related machinery.
● Demonstrated experience setting up, operating, cleaning and maintaining professional airless spray-painting equipment, including appropriate selection and adjustment of spray tips, pressure and application techniques for different coatings and surfaces.
● Experience operating line-marking machines and carrying out commercial line-marking work.
● Knowledge of appropriate surface preparation, measurement, layout and application techniques for line marking.
● Understanding of Australian line-marking requirements and compliance standards, particularly within commercial environments.
● Experience working safely on commercial sites and in environments where businesses remain operational during maintenance works.
● Experience undertaking work at heights and using appropriate height-access equipment.
● Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce consistent, high-quality finishes.
● Ability to interpret job specifications, measurements and site requirements.
● Strong time-management skills and the ability to meet project deadlines.
● Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a maintenance team.
● Good communication skills and a professional, client-focused approach.
● Strong understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
LICENCES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Applicants should hold, or be able to demonstrate relevant competency in:
● White Card – Construction Induction
● Yellow Card / relevant elevated work platform certification, where applicable
● Working at Heights certification
● Training or demonstrated competency in the safe operation of line-marking machinery and equipment
● Any other licences, tickets or site-specific certifications required for commercial maintenance projects
● Painting and line-marking works in car parks, loading areas, pedestrian zones and other high-traffic commercial areas.
● Airless spray painting and the application of coatings across large commercial surface areas.
Pay: $80,000.00 – $90,000.00 per year
