Due to continued business growth and increasing project demand, we are seeking a qualified and experienced Painter to join our team on a full-time basis.
Position Summary
The Painter will be responsible for preparing, protecting, maintaining and decorating interior and exterior surfaces across residential and commercial projects. The successful candidate will carry out painting and decorating works using appropriate materials, tools and application methods while maintaining high standards of workmanship, safety, presentation and professionalism.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
· Erect and safely use ladders, scaffolding and access equipment, and place drop sheets, masking and protective coverings to protect surrounding areas.
· Prepare surfaces by removing old paint, wallpaper and loose materials; filling holes and cracks; repairing minor surface defects; sanding, smoothing, sealing and priming surfaces as required.
· Select and prepare paints, varnishes, stains, primers and other coatings to required colours and finishes, including mixing pigments and appropriate thinning or drying additives where required.
· Apply paints, varnishes, stains and other finishes using brushes, rollers and spray equipment to achieve consistent, high-quality finishes.
· Hang wallpaper and other wall coverings where required, including matching patterns, smoothing surfaces and accurately trimming edges.
· Read and interpret project specifications, drawings, colour schedules and work instructions relevant to painting and decorating works.
· Inspect completed work, undertake touch-ups and rectification where required, and ensure finishes meet project quality standards.
· Clean, maintain and safely store painting tools, spray equipment and materials, and maintain clean and safe work areas.
· Comply with WHS requirements, site safety procedures, manufacturer instructions and company policies at all times.
· Work collaboratively with supervisors, builders and other trades to coordinate painting activities and support timely project delivery.
Skills and Experience
· Certificate III in Painting and Decorating or an equivalent relevant trade qualification.
· Minimum 1 year of relevant post-qualification experience as a Painter or Painter and Decorator.
· Demonstrated experience in surface preparation, colour matching and the application of paint, varnish, stain and other protective or decorative coatings.
· Competence using brushes, rollers, spray equipment, ladders and other painting tools and access equipment.
· Ability to interpret job specifications, plans, colour schedules and technical instructions relevant to painting works.
· Sound knowledge of painting materials, preparation methods, finishing techniques and safe handling of coatings and related products.
· Understanding of Australian WHS requirements and construction-site safety practices.
· Strong attention to detail, reliable work practices, punctuality and the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team.
