ABOUT THE ROLE
We have a unique opportunity for a Head of Legal - Cricket Operations & Legal Services to join Cricket Australia on a fixed term contract until May 2027. In this role, you will provide strategic, high-quality legal advice across the organisation while leading complex, high-value negotiations and legal projects that underpin the delivery of international and domestic cricket.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work at the heart of Australia’s favourite sport and make a genuine impact on the game, both on and off the field. You’ll play a key role in driving strong commercial outcomes, managing risk, and supporting priorities across high performance, community cricket and major competitions, while delivering pragmatic, solutions-focused legal support in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. You’ll play a key leadership role within a highly regarded, collaborative and supportive team, with the opportunity to contribute to delivering excellent outcomes for Cricket across a big summer of cricket!
Other key responsibilities include:
Leading the negotiation, drafting and management of critical agreements, including venue hire, government agency, ICC, services and supply, and player-related contracts to drive commercial outcomes.
Providing strategic legal advice across cricket operations, including competitions, high performance, community programs, and partnerships with State and Territory Cricket Associations.
Overseeing employee and industrial relations legal matters, including enterprise agreements, policies, performance management, and dispute resolution.
Leading and supporting an exceptional legal team, while coordinating external law firms to ensure efficient, high-quality and cost-effective legal service delivery.
Driving legal governance, compliance, and risk mitigation initiatives, including privacy, data protection, and adherence to contracting frameworks.
Leading and supporting key organisational projects, disputes and litigation, ensuring alignment with legislative and regulatory requirements.
Identifying opportunities to enhance legal processes, systems and education across the organisation to improve efficiency, compliance and stakeholder capability.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We’re looking for a commercially savvy and people-focused legal leader who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is excited by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact across Australian Cricket. You will also:
Be a qualified Australian lawyer (LLB or JD) with 8+ years’ post-admission experience across top-tier law firms or in-house environments.
Strong expertise in commercial, contracts and corporate law, with the ability to balance legal risk with commercial outcomes.
A proven people leader who enjoys mentoring, developing and inspiring others, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing team culture.
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and influence at all levels of an organisation.
A clear, confident communicator with exceptional drafting, analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
Highly organised and adaptable, with the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
A positive, team-first mindset with a genuine passion for sport (or major events) and an interest in sports governance, integrity and the broader cricket landscape.
