About the Role

IKARIA is seeking an experienced and motivated Cook to join our busy kitchen team in Bondi. The successful applicant will work in a fast-paced hospitality environment, assisting the Chef in preparing and presenting high-quality meals while maintaining excellent food safety and kitchen standards.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare all food items as directed in a timely manner.
Prepare and cook meats, fish, vegetables, and sauces.
Ensure food is appropriately seasoned and prepared to a high standard.
Serve food in appropriate portions, including plating and garnishing dishes.
Prepare meals for customers with food allergies or dietary intolerances.
Maintain high standards of food quality by checking cooked food, stock quality, and food temperatures.
Operate cooking equipment, including ovens and grills, and regulate temperatures as required.
Store food appropriately in temperature-controlled storage areas using suitable containers and trays.
Assist with cleaning, sanitation, and organisation of the kitchen, cool room, and storage areas.
Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications set by the Chef.
Remain productive during service and prepare for upcoming kitchen requirements where possible.
Contribute ideas and suggestions to the Chef during menu planning.
Assist with training apprentices and other kitchen staff when required.
Restock kitchen items and supplies before and after shifts.
Report equipment maintenance issues, breakages, or poor-quality stock to the Chef promptly.

Requirements

At least 1 year of relevant work experience as a Cook or in a similar role
AQF Certificate III including at least two years of on-the-job training, or AQF Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery, or equivalent OR relevant experience of at least 3 years may substitute for formal qualifications where applicable
Strong knowledge of kitchen operations and food safety practices
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced team environment
Good communication and organisational skills
Availability to work weekends and flexible shifts
