The Role

The Registered Midwife working in the Royal Hospital for Women's Midwifery Antenatal and Postnatal Service (MAPS) continuity of care model coordinates and delivers high quality midwifery antenatal care in both the hospital and community hub settings, and postnatal care in the home. Care is provided to maternity patients within the Antenatal Outpatients Department (OPD), community-based antenatal clinics and the community postnatal setting, including the patient’s home.

The MAPS midwife is expected to work across a range of clinical environments, including community hubs where care may be provided autonomously and in relative isolation from the broader multidisciplinary team. The midwife is required to demonstrate sound clinical judgement, effective communication skills, and the ability to escalate concerns appropriately whilst working independently.

The MAPS midwife is responsible for maintaining their personal and professional development by participating in training, education activities, and performance reviews in order to continuously improve the level and quality of service they provide.

Selection Criteria:

Current registration as a Registered Midwife with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia along with holding current unrestricted drivers licence

Basic computer skills and proven ability to use health information systems

Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others

Demonstrate ability to provide safe compassionate quality care that is culturally responsive

Demonstrated ability to proactively engage with patients to enhance service delivery and to guide others in providing service excellence

Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations

Demonstrate understanding and participation in risk management, work health and safety and quality improvement in the workplace

Demonstrate recent experience as a Registered Midwife in an environment appropriate to the relevant specialty. Antenatal OPD this includes bookings, midwives clinic and use of the ACM guidelines for consultation and referrals. Postnatal this includes community based postnatal care
