The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. We’re focused on
supporting Victorians to be as healthy as they can; whether through alerting them to seasonal risks like thunderstorm asthma, notifying them of contact with
communicable diseases, safeguarding their drinking water, developing the best health, wellbeing and care facilities in the world, being at the forefront of mental health and
wellbeing treatment or accelerating medical research. It’s all part of the way we partner with the community to help every individual lead a healthy life.

About the role:

The Analyst supports the delivery of high-quality, trusted data assets by contributing to the management and maintenance of data pipelines and the preparation of curated, business-ready datasets to enable consistent, accessible and locally-driven analytics and business intelligence within a decentralised analytics environment. Working within a collaborative multidisciplinary team, the Analyst undertakes data extraction, transformation and validation activities to support routine data supply, performance reporting, and operational analytics. The role contributes to the development and maintenance of curated datasets that are clearly defined, quality assured, and suitable for reuse by business areas, supporting consistent interpretation and application of performance information across the department.

The Analyst will have demonstrated conceptual and analytical skills, attention to detail, good communication and stakeholder liaison skills, and will work well within a team to achieve team goals, and a demonstrated ability to manage and plan their work. A knowledge of the Victorian health system and health datasets would be desirable.

About you:

Can you demonstrate the following?

Assist in the operation and maintenance of repeatable data pipelines to support regular delivery cycles
Support data ingestion, transformation and preparation processes in line with defined specifications and standards
Perform validation, reconciliation and quality assurance checks on datasets and outputs
Prepare data extracts and structured datasets for use in local analysis and business intelligence tools
Support the development and quality assurance of performance indicators and bespoke analytic investigations
Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to deliver shared outputs and priorities

Qualifications / Specialist Expertise

A relevant tertiary qualification in a quantitative, data, information systems or related discipline.
Demonstrated ability to work with data, including extraction, transformation and basic analysis of structured datasets.
Understanding of data pipelines, data preparation processes, or business intelligence environments
Experience with SQL, Databricks or similar tools for working with data.
An understanding of the Victorian health system and administrative health datasets is desirable.
