The Department of Health plays a critical role in the Victorian health system and is responsible for shaping it to meet the health needs of all Victorians. We’re focused on
supporting Victorians to be as healthy as they can; whether through alerting them to seasonal risks like thunderstorm asthma, notifying them of contact with
communicable diseases, safeguarding their drinking water, developing the best health, wellbeing and care facilities in the world, being at the forefront of mental health and
wellbeing treatment or accelerating medical research. It’s all part of the way we partner with the community to help every individual lead a healthy life.

About the role:

The Senior Infrastructure Architect provides specialist infrastructure architecture expertise to support the design, implementation and ongoing evolution of infrastructure solutions within Health Technology Services. The role contributes to the development of fit‑for‑purpose architectures that support reliable, secure and efficient shared services for the Victorian public health sector.

As part of the HTS Architecture team, the role develops and maintains architectural artefacts, contributes to solution design and options analysis, and supports transition planning and implementation activities. The Senior Infrastructure Architect applies sound judgement to ensure solutions align with established architectural standards, security requirements and operational needs.

About you:

Supports consistent application of architecture guidance by ensuring documentation is accurate, current and suitable for reuse across initiatives.
Escalates complex architectural issues appropriately and contributes to clear documentation of decisions and rationale.
Provides specialist infrastructure architecture support across a defined scope of services and initiatives, contributing to solution design, architectural artefacts and implementation guidance.
Applies knowledge of infrastructure technologies, organisational context and delivery constraints to support architecture activities and problem solving.

Qualification/Specialist Expertise

Tertiary qualification or relevant study in information technology, computer science, engineering or a related discipline.
Relevant professional training or certifications in infrastructure, cloud or solution architecture.
Equivalent professional experience in infrastructure or solution architecture roles will be considered in lieu of formal qualifications.
Mandatory:
- Demonstrated experience contributing to infrastructure architecture activities within a defined scope, including solution design, development of architectural artefacts and support for implementation or transition activities.
- Demonstrated experience applying infrastructure architecture standards, patterns and security requirements to support delivery of reliable and supportable technology solutions.
Desirable:
- Experience working with cloud and/or on‑premises infrastructure technologies in a complex organisational environment.
- Experience contributing to options analysis, solution documentation and architectural decision records.
- Experience operating within government or regulated environments, with an understanding of documentation, assurance and escalation requirements.
