Full Job Description

Support transparency and access to information in a role that underpins accountable decision making.

The Role

As the Access to Information Officer, you will provide high-quality research and administrative support across a range of information access, privacy, and governance activities. You will play an important role in ensuring Council meets its legislative obligations while delivering timely and accurate responses to information requests.

You will assist in processing access to information applications and internal privacy reviews, including researching requests, preparing documentation, and supporting decision-making in line with relevant legislation and Council policies.

In this role, you will also support the management of privacy-related complaints and contribute to the coordination of responses to external bodies. You will ensure requests are handled professionally, accurately, and within statutory timeframes.

You will assist with policy development activities and the maintenance of public disclosure registers, ensuring information is current, compliant, and accessible. You will also contribute to the efficient administration of governance processes within the team.

This is a detail-oriented role that requires strong organisational skills, sound judgement, and the ability to manage sensitive information with care.

Key Accountabilities:

Research and process access to information applications under the GIPA Act, ensuring compliance with legislative and reporting requirements
Assist with interpreting and applying relevant legislation, including the GIPA Act, PPIP Act, HRIP Act, and Local Government Act
Process formal and informal access requests, including third-party consultations and subpoenas
Draft correspondence, reports, and governance documentation under the guidance of senior staff
Maintain governance registers, including the GIPA Disclosure Log and records management systems, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Respond to internal and external enquiries in line with Council policies and service standards
Support continuous improvement of governance processes and ensure sensitive information is handled appropriately

What We Are Looking For

You are a capable and detail-oriented professional with experience in information access, governance, or a related field. You bring sound judgement, strong organisational skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

You will have:

A legal qualification or equivalent experience in a related field
Experience interpreting and applying relevant legislation, including the GIPA Act and Local Government Act
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgement
Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines
Ability to undertake research and prepare correspondence, reports, and documentation
Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities with minimal supervision

Salary from $78,552.73 to $91,015.06 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation
Permanent full-time role (35 hours per week)
