Where you’ll be working

The primary location of this position will be in the Clinical Research Unit located at Ground Floor, W R Pitney Building and the Cancer Care Centre at St George Hospital, Gray Street, Kogarah NSW 2217.

The St George Hospital Clinical Trial Unit oversees and runs multiple pharmaceutical sponsored trials and collaborative group studies. Medical fellows interested in broadening their clinical trial experience are encouraged to apply. The position provides experience in understanding the principles and steps involved in running clinical trials.

The Opportunity

Working two days per week (0.42 FTE), as the Provisional Fellow (Clinical Trials – Medical Oncology), you will play a central role in the delivery of cutting-edge clinical research while continuing to develop your clinical expertise.

The purpose of this role is to provide effective clinical management of patients, under appropriate supervision, including patient assessment, making treatment decisions, performing procedures and maintaining adequate medical records; and to develop expertise in medical practice, in a complex clinical environment. This includes supervised general medical management of patients admitted to specialist departments.

Working under specialist supervision, you will:

Provide clinical management of patients
Undertake patient assessments, treatment planning, and follow-up care
Support recruitment, consent, and protocol adherence across multiple studies
Contribute to trial delivery within a high-performing multidisciplinary team
Gain hands-on experience in complex and innovative oncology research

Selection Criteria

MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia.

Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team in the planning, delivery and coordination of patient care

High level communication skills, including the ability to convey, and adapt verbal and written information to a clinical and non-clinical audience

Demonstrated good organisational and time management skills and ability to manage competing priorities in a complex environment

Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement, patient safety and risk management

Demonstrated high level independent clinical skills and judgement, with the ability to make sound decisions and problem solve with an awareness of limitations and ability to learn independently and modify behaviour accordingly.

Demonstrated interest and commitment to further education and practice in medical oncology.
