Who we are

The NSW Early Learning Commission (Commission), established as the independent regulator for early childhood education and care (ECEC) in New South Wales on 1 December 2025, is responsible for regulating more than 6,000 ECEC services across the state.

Our role is to ensure services meet high standards of safety, quality, and compliance through ongoing assessment, monitoring and enforcement.

The Commission places children at the centre of all decision-making, working to ensure they are safe, respected, and supported to thrive in high-quality early learning environments that promote their development, wellbeing, and lifelong learning. It also drives continuous improvement across the sector through evidence-informed regulation and reform to strengthen community confidence in ECEC services.

The Commission respects and values Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the First Peoples of Australia.

About the role

The Triage Officer plays an integral role in the coordination and risk assessment of complaints, incidents and a range of notifications relating to the quality and safety of early childhood education and care services (ECEC). You will:

Assess complaints and incidents to determine risk, priority and workflow allocation for timely regulatory action
Analyse regulatory data, and provide advice to Triage Coordinator to support regulatory responses
Monitor the progress of active investigations, ensuring legislative and regulatory timeframes are met
Maintain accurate and up to date case management records

About you

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

Experience making risk-based decisions within a regulatory environment, early childhood education and care sector is highly desirable

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment while maintaining accuracy
Strong critical thinking skills to assess risks, prioritise and triage matters to support timely regulatory response
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare well-structured, clear and concise advice, correspondence and reports
Excellent organisation and time management skills to manage competing priorities and meet strict deadlines

Essential requirements of the role

Current and valid Working with Children Check (WWCC) Clearance for paid employment.
Demonstrated understanding of and committed to the value of early childhood education and care.
