## Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled and forward-thinking Urban and Regional Planner to join our team and contribute to the sustainable development of communities across urban and rural landscapes. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, analysing, and implementing land use plans and policies that balance economic growth, environmental responsibility, and social equity. This role suits a professional with a strong analytical mindset, excellent stakeholder engagement skills, and a genuine commitment to shaping liveable, resilient places. Experience working within Australian planning frameworks and a collaborative approach to problem-solving will be highly regarded.

## Key Responsibilities

- Compile and analyse complex data across economic, environmental, demographic, cultural, and sociological factors to inform sound land use planning decisions and policy development.
- Develop and recommend land use strategies, preparing detailed narrative reports, graphic plans, and design proposals for presentation to clients, communities, and government bodies.
- Engage and confer with government authorities, community groups, architects, legal professionals, social scientists, and environmental specialists to ensure planning outcomes are well-informed and broadly supported.
- Advise government agencies and private organisations on urban and regional planning matters, including resource planning, zoning strategies, and sustainable development frameworks.
- Review, assess, and provide expert commentary on environmental impact assessments and statements, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and best-practice standards.
- Monitor and interpret changes to building codes, zoning regulations, planning legislation, and other legal requirements, ensuring all work remains current and compliant.
- Prepare and present planning proposals at public meetings, community consultations, and government hearings, clearly communicating complex planning concepts to diverse audiences.
- Act as a mediator in planning disputes or contested development proposals, facilitating constructive dialogue between competing stakeholder interests.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate transport, infrastructure, housing, and open space considerations into cohesive planning frameworks.
- Conduct site assessments and field investigations to gather on-the-ground data that informs planning recommendations and development strategies.
- Contribute to the preparation of local environmental plans, development control plans, strategic planning documents, and planning scheme amendments.
- Manage and prioritise multiple planning projects simultaneously, ensuring deliverables are met on time, within scope, and to a high professional standard.

## Required Qualifications & Skills

- A bachelor's degree or postgraduate qualification in Urban and Regional Planning, Urban Design, or a closely related discipline.
- Eligibility for membership with the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) or equivalent professional body.
- Demonstrated experience in a planning role, ideally within a local government authority, state agency, or private consultancy in Australia.
- Sound knowledge of Australian planning legislation, zoning frameworks, environmental planning instruments, and development assessment processes.
- Proven ability to analyse and interpret complex data sets, technical reports, and statutory documentation to produce clear planning advice and recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare high-quality reports and present confidently to a range of stakeholders.
- Experience engaging with community groups, government representatives, and multidisciplinary project teams across the full planning lifecycle.
- Proficiency in GIS software and planning-related mapping tools, with the ability to produce and interpret spatial data.
- Solid understanding of environmental impact assessment processes and sustainability principles as they apply to land use planning.
- Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines across multiple projects.

## Preferred Qualifications

- Membership with the Planning Institute of Australia (PIA) or active pursuit of professional accreditation.
- Postgraduate qualifications in urban planning, environmental management, urban design, or a related field.
- Experience preparing or reviewing environmental impact statements, heritage assessments, or transport impact analyses.
- Familiarity with state-specific planning legislation and development assessment pathways relevant to the role's location.
- Experience in community engagement facilitation, mediation, or public consultation processes.
- Knowledge of climate adaptation planning, urban resilience strategies, or sustainable development frameworks.
- Exposure to infrastructure planning, urban renewal projects, or large-scale strategic planning initiatives.
