Senior Policy and Projects Officer

Melbourne CBD | Hybrid working

Salary range Grade 5.1: $106,845 - $118,057

Drive strategic policy and projects that shape the future of teaching quality and professional regulation in Victoria.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to high-profile policy initiatives and strategic projects that influence the teaching profession and support VIT's role as Victoria's regulator of teachers. Working at the intersection of policy, regulation and education, you will play a key role in developing evidence-based solutions, leading complex projects and providing trusted advice to senior leaders and stakeholders.

About the role

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Policy and Projects, the Senior Policy and Projects Officer is responsible for leading and supporting complex policy development and project delivery across the organisation.

You will contribute to strategic initiatives that strengthen regulatory frameworks, inform organisational decision-making and support the delivery of VIT's Strategic Plan. The role requires strong analytical skills, sound judgement and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and support the development, implementation and review of strategic and regulatory policies.
Provide high-quality policy advice, research, analysis, briefings and recommendations for Executive and Council.
Manage and deliver complex projects, including planning, consultation, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement.
Engage and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to inform policy and project outcomes.
Use data, research and performance insights to support decision-making and identify opportunities for improvement.
Support organisational change initiatives arising from policy and strategic projects.
Develop project management documentation, monitor progress and manage risks to ensure successful delivery.
Contribute to building policy and project management capability across the organisation.

About you

You are a strategic thinker with strong policy and project management experience, ideally gained within a government, regulatory, education or similarly complex environment.

Strong project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes in a dynamic environment.
Proven stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across diverse groups.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing high-quality reports, briefings and presentations.
