About the Plastics department
The Plastics Department, as part of the Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia & Procedural Medicine, is responsible for the provision of services within the specialty to patients across all campuses of Austin Health. The Plastic & Reconstruction Surgery Department Head of Unit is Mr Derek Neoh.
Plastic & reconstructive surgery services are provided at both the Austin and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital sites. The Unit is committed to the provision of high-quality patient care and maintains an ongoing commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching that includes Medical Students, Postgraduate Plastics Nurses, Physiotherapists, Hospital Medical Officers, Registrars and many others.
The Austin Plastics department is comprised of over 20 surgeons and junior medical staff including: clinical Fellows; 2 accredited Registrars; 2 non-accredited Registrars; and Residents across 2 campuses.
A consultative Plastics service is provided to other Units across all campuses. In addition, outpatient clinics provide new, review, post-operative and post-fracture assessment and management to some 16,000 patients per annum.
About the role
The Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeons are expected to provide high level surgical services within their approved scope of clinical practice. As all Surgeons are expected to be able to provide routine surgical services and cover “on call” after hours, a minimum mandatory level of expertise and set of skills is necessary.
This is a senior Medical Position and carries with it the professional responsibilities of clinical leadership, teaching and training as well as some administrative requirements.
Hours per week: Total of 20.6 hour per week available across a range of operating and outpatient sessions
Employment status: Ongoing, Fractional Roles
Additional notes: Hours may be split over multiple applicants based on availability.
About you
To be successful in this role you’ll bring with you:
Medical Practitioner registration with AHPRA and hold a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS (Plastics)), or equivalent
Appropriate training and experience applicable to the field of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Commitment to high-quality patient care
Commitment to working as a team member with peer medical, junior medical, nursing and other clinical staff to provide efficient, safe and quality care across the continuum, and
Commitment to teaching, training and research
