Nuclear Fields is a worldwide manufacturer and exporter of specialist medical and radiation shielding products. With over 40 years of experience and a well-established reputation in the global medical market, we design, manufacture, and export our own proprietary product range from our facility in St Marys, NSW. We are a stable, growing business offering secure long-term employment in a professional, supportive environment.

THE ROLE

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our production team on a permanent, full-time basis. This hands-on role supports the manufacture of our specialist product range and requires a high degree of precision, technical competence, and a commitment to quality.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Read, interpret, and work from engineering drawings and technical specifications
Create computer-based CAM programs based on supplied engineering drawings
Program and edit CNC programs at the CNC machine controller
Coordinate with consulting mechanical engineers
Set up and operate CNC machines
Perform quality checks and dimensional inspection to ensure components meet required tolerances
Diagnose and rectify machine faults using appropriate tools and procedures
Collaborate effectively within the production team and contribute to a positive workplace culture
Complete all required production records, job cards, and quality documentation accurately
Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute problem-solving input to the team

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

To be considered for this position, candidates must be able to demonstrate:

Technical Skills

Relevant associate degree, advanced diploma or diploma or equivalent qualification or relevant experience
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T
Be very proficient and have proven experience in Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programming for CNC machine tools
Hands on manual and CNC machining experience using milling machines and lathes
Sound knowledge of machine operating procedures and safe work practices
Experience with dimensional inspection tools (micrometers, verniers, gauges)
Understanding of material properties relevant to machined components

Reliable, hardworking, and self-motivated with a positive attitude
Strong problem-solving and fault-finding capability
Mechanically minded with sound practical judgement
Solid basic mathematics skills, including measurement and tolerances
Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team
Ability to handle heavy equipment safely and in compliance with WHS requirements

REQUIREMENTS

Ability to reliably commute to, or willingness to relocate to, St Marys NSW 2760 prior to commencement (required)
Australian work rights (required)
Trade qualification in engineering/machining or equivalent demonstrated experience (preferred)
