Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic (AT2701)

Ready to turn your passion for cars and trucks into a career? Mackay Regional Council is looking for a motivated individual to join our team as an Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic at our Paget Workshop, where you'll gain practical experience while building a rewarding career in the automotive industry.

As an Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic, you will gain hands-on experience maintaining and repairing a diverse fleet of heavy vehicles and equipment while working alongside experienced tradespeople in a supportive learning environment.

Timeframe and Qualification:

This is a 4-year apprenticeship. On completion you will obtain a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology.

This is an apprenticeship and is ideal for school leavers, those new to the industry or seeking a career change. Eligibility criteria apply if you hold existing qualifications in this area.

What you will need to succeed:

Ability to plan and be an active problem solver.

Interest in working in a workshop and field environment.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Physically fit and energetic and able to complete manual handling tasks.

Successful completion of Year 10 is desirable but not required.

Shortlisted applicants must be available for interviews from 22 September – 01 October 2026.

Council is committed to the safety of its employees and requires an immunisation program for identified roles. The successful applicant will be required to attend a post-employment immunisation assessment, by a health practitioner nominated and paid for by the Council.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake a pre-employment Medical and Drug and Alcohol test as part of the onboarding process.
