About the role:

We are seeking a motivated and detail oriented Internal Audit Officer to support the delivery of a high quality internal audit function. Reporting to the Chief Audit Executive, you will contribute to ensuring compliance with the NSW Guidelines on Risk Management and Internal Audit in Local Government.

In this role, you will assist in the development and execution of risk-based internal audit plans, prepare reports and audit documentation, and maintain accurate records in line with required standards. You will also help monitor the implementation of audit recommendations, identify inefficiencies, and support continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation.

Key responsibilities include coordinating audit activities, supporting ARIC meeting processes, maintaining tracking systems for audit actions, and assisting with investigations or ad-hoc enquiries as required.

This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive professional with strong analytical, organisational, and communication skills to contribute to governance, risk, and compliance outcomes within a dynamic local government environment.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following key skills and attributes:

A relevant tertiary qualification and/or extensive job related experience in internal auditing in Local or State Government.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, government policy and practice (including Local, State and Federal), specifically the Local Government Act).
High-level research, analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to deal with complexity and sensitive information.
Extensive experience in managing multiple administrative tasks with competing priorities.
High level organisational, and stakeholder engagement skills.
Project management skills, with an ability to achieve outcomes and deadlines.
Demonstrated interpersonal and collaboration skills to contribute to and positively influence organisational culture.
Knowledge and experience in undertaking a range of internal audit activities in accordance with applicable standards including International Professional Practices Framework.
High level written communication skills including presentation and report writing to audiences such as audit, risk and improvement committees and senior executives.
