Join the Test Team within Auto & General's Technology division — a group of quality-focused professionals dedicated to ensuring the reliability and excellence of our digital products and platforms. The team plays a critical role in the software delivery lifecycle, collaborating closely with developers, product owners, business analysts, and automation specialists to deliver exceptional outcomes. You'll be leading a team of 6–10 Test Analysts, reporting to the Test Manager, and contributing to a vibrant community of practice that champions continuous improvement. The role
As Test Lead, you'll oversee the entire testing lifecycle — from strategic planning and design through to execution and comprehensive reporting. You'll be responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of applications, products and services across multiple testing types including system, integration, regression, UAT, performance, security, and production verification testing. This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll mentor your team, champion quality across the organisation, and drive continuous improvement in testing practices.

Develop and manage testing strategy and planning across all testing phases (ST/SIT, Regression, UAT, PVT)

Lead walkthroughs with stakeholders on testing approaches for new initiatives

Provide guidance and support to Test Analysts on test coverage, risks, and defect management

Build, define, and maintain regression suites in collaboration with Test Analysts and Business SMEs

Partner with Automation Analysts to support automation of regression suites

Actively participate in Flow Delivery workshops representing testing requirements

Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Developers, Scrum Masters, Product Owners, Business Analysts) from concept to delivery

Plan and design comprehensive test cases ensuring coverage across positive, negative, and regression scenarios

Lead test execution, defect identification, raising, and retesting

Deliver comprehensive test reports including Test Progress, Test Summary, and Defect reports

Apply advanced testing techniques such as risk-based testing, BDD, TDD, and the 3 amigos approach

Support onboarding of new team members and facilitate skills development for Test Analysts

Contribute to the Testing Community of Practice, sharing knowledge and best practices

Provide transparent communication to stakeholders on all testing matters

Identify, assess, and mitigate operational, financial, and reputational risks in line with APRA's prudential standards
What experience you'll bring
-
Minimum 3 years' experience as a Test Lead
-
Demonstrated experience supporting and mentoring a team of Test Analysts
-
Proven track record creating test strategies, plans, test traceability matrices, and test reports

Strong understanding of software development methodologies including Agile/Scrum and Continuous Delivery
-
Demonstrated use of testing techniques such as Risk Based testing, BDD, and TDD
-
High-level knowledge of test practices, tools, and techniques, including the testing pyramid
-
Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage technical staff, end-users, and management
-
Strong coaching and mentoring skills to uplift team capabilities

Pragmatic approach and resilience to change

Ability to work independently with limited supervision

Sound skills in problem solving, time and resource management

Degree relating to Information Technology field from a recognised tertiary institution (or equivalent qualifications/experience)

ISTQB Certified (essential)
Location
This role can be based in Toowong, Kawana or North Lakes, with a preference for Toowong. Close to a variety of public transport and easy parking options, the Toowong office has excellent end of trip facilities (including secure bike storage and showers), outdoor spaces and plenty of modern collaborative areas to work and connect with colleagues. Strategic Leadership:

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:

Actively participate and represent testing requirements in all Flow Delivery workshops (concept, planning, estimation).

Collaborate with Test Analysts, Developers, SMs, POs, BAs, and Business SMEs from concept to delivery.

Collaborate with the E2E team to define and break down Acceptance Criteria, produce test estimates, assumptions, dependencies, and risks.

Work closely with Developers and Automation Analysts to identify automation opportunities.

Provide transparent communication to stakeholders around all things testing.
Testing Execution & Reporting:

Plan and design test cases to ensure comprehensive test coverage, considering positive, negative, and regression impacts.

Lead team is executing tests using various techniques, identifying, raising, and retesting defects.

Deliver comprehensive test reports, including Test Progress reports, Test Summary reports, and Defect reports.

Adhere to the Defect Management Process.

Provide pre-live and production deployment testing support.
Continuous Improvement:

Contribute to the Community of Practice, sharing knowledge and best practices.

Support the Test Manager in coordinating and facilitating test planning across multiple teams.

Understand and apply functional and non-functional quality attributes.

Participate in root cause analysis to identify and address underlying issues.

Min 3 years experience as a Test Lead

Demonstrated experience in supporting a team of Test Analyst

Demonstrated experience in creating test strategies, plans, test traceability matrix, test reports

Experience in educating peers and stakeholders in different types of testing

Understanding of software development methodologies including AGILE/Scrum Continuous Delivery including agile testing.

The Test Lead will also provide mentorship and guidance to a team of testers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the testing community of practice.
