Full Job Description

Are you an experienced policy, governance or legal professional with exceptional research, writing and leadership skills? Would you thrive in a dynamic environment where your work directly supports Queensland's parliamentary democracy?

The Queensland Parliament is seeking a highly motivated and strategic Committee Secretary to lead the operations of a parliamentary committee secretariat.

As Committee Secretary, you will provide strategic, procedural and analysis to parliamentary committees, lead a high-performing secretariat, and manage complex inquiries. You will analyse legislation and public policy, engage with diverse stakeholders, prepare authoritative briefings and reports, and support committee decision-making while maintaining independence, professionalism and political impartiality.

Key Objectives

Act as the principal adviser to the committee on procedural, policy and operational matters.
Lead committee inquiries, consultations and reporting processes.
Provide high-quality analysis, research and advice to support committee decision-making.

Your Role

Act as the principal adviser to a parliamentary committee, providing authoritative procedural, legislative and policy advice to support informed decision-making.
Lead and coordinate committee inquiries efficiently and in accordance with parliamentary requirements.
Analyse complex legislation, public policy issues and stakeholder submissions, translating technical information into clear and practical advice.
Prepare high-quality reports, briefing papers, correspondence and presentations that support parliamentary scrutiny and accountability.
Facilitate stakeholder engagement and consultation activities with government agencies, industry representatives, community organisations and the public.
Lead, mentor and develop a small secretariat team, fostering a collaborative, high-performing and professional work environment.
Manage committee resources and budgets, ensuring effective planning, governance and service delivery.
Maintain the highest standards of integrity, confidentiality and political impartiality in a dynamic parliamentary environment.
Contribute to the Parliamentary Service's broader objectives by promoting organisational values, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, collaborating across service areas, and championing a "one Parliamentary Service" culture.

What We're Looking For

Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline, particularly law, are highly desirable.
Demonstrated parliamentary advisory skills.
Demonstrated high-level research, analysis and communication abilities.
Strong leadership, people development and collaboration skills.
Excellent stakeholder engagement and client service skills.
Focus on innovation and continuous improvement.
