Vermont South Special School is located in Vermont South in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne in an attractive residential area. The school is a primary specialist setting for students with an intellectual disability (Full Scale Intelligence Quotient of between 50 - 70), aged between 5 - 12. Many students also exhibit other diagnosed disabilities and medical conditions, with 65% of students diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. Students come from seven local government areas and are transported to school by bus. The school currently has 150 students with a maximum enrolment of 180 students. The school has 57 staff members: 2 Principal Class, 27 teachers (FTE 22.06) and 31 Education Support Staff (FTE 21.63 At Vermont South Special School, it is our mission to provide students with the best possible foundation in life through a well-rounded education. The school is divided into four sections: Foundation, Juniors, Middles and Seniors. Class sizes are small, ranging from 6 - 7 students in Foundation to 12 - 13 in Seniors. A qualified Special Education teacher, together with a teacher assistant in every class, ensures that students' individual needs are catered for. Students are further supported by specialist subjects; Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Physical Education, and the Healthy Kitchen Program. An occupational therapist, physiotherapist, speech pathologists, nurse and re-engagement officer also support students' additional needs.

Range 3 is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of professional support services. The role will usually impact beyond the work area or professional field. It seeks to gain cooperation of other staff members or members of the school community to achieve specific objectives, such as in school administration, operations or educational programs.
Direction on targets and goals is provided but the position will have some degree of latitude in determining how they are achieved. This latitude will generally be limited by standard procedures and school policy. Deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
The provision of business management responsibilities becomes a feature at range 3. Management of staff to achieve the expected outcomes is a key responsibility. Staff management issues will be resolved with minimal reference to senior management, although guidance will be required in more complex cases. Senior management will be provided with timely reports and advice, although this will generally be confined to matters relating to the immediate work area, service provision or educational program and is unlikely to impact substantially on whole of school operations.
This is the minimum range for positions that carry a mandatory qualification requirement of not less than four years. Professional student support positions become a feature at range 3 (e.g. therapists, psychologists) where standard professional services are delivered. Professional support and guidance will be close at hand and deviation from standard procedures and school policy will require guidance and direction from senior management.
An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students, but must not include duties of teaching as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor. Supervision of students cannot be required except where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or involves supervision of students individually or in small groups, in controlled circumstances, where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.
The successful applicant will play a key role in supporting the school's financial management, governance and administrative operations. They will demonstrate strong financial expertise, sound judgement and a commitment to delivering accurate, efficient and compliant financial services.
Key responsibilities and capabilities include:

Use CASES21 to manage the school's day to day financial operations, including accounts payable and receivable, creditor payments, family billing, receipting, cash management, corporate credit cards, general ledger processing, journal entries, bank reconciliations and end-of-month financial processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with Department policies and Treasury requirements.

Prepare, monitor and analyse the annual budget, financial statements and regular financial reports, providing timely advice to the Principal, Leadership Team and School Council to support strategic planning and informed decision-making.

Administer government grants, school funding, investments, fundraising income, the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF), and other school revenue, ensuring funds are accurately managed, accounted for and reported.

Maintain effective financial systems and records, including asset management and AIMS ordering and inventory administration through Compass. Demonstrated proficiency in CASES21, Compass and Microsoft Excel are required.

Support School Council financial administration by preparing reports, maintaining financial documentation, and contributing to sound governance, compliance and audit requirements.

Monitor expenditure against approved budgets and provide financial advice and support to staff in monitoring general ledger and sub-program expenditure against approved cash budgets.

Coordinate school fundraising activities and associated financial administration to ensure accurate financial management and reporting.

Demonstrate strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills, with a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
