THE OPPORTUNITY
ICON's structural engineering scope runs from brownfields topsides modifications and jacket reinforcements through to specialised equipment design and offshore construction support — and this role sits at the technical centre of it. You'll carry genuine design authority across a mix of offshore and onshore scopes, work directly with project engineers and construction teams, and see your solutions through from calculation to installation. The workload is varied, the complexity is real, and the projects are live.

THE ROLE
You'll take ownership of structural scopes across brownfields modifications, floating and fixed platform design, and specialised equipment design. On larger projects you'll lead a small engineering or drafting team; on smaller scopes you'll work as the sole structural engineer with full technical accountability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead structural design across brownfields modifications, topsides upgrades, jacket reinforcements, and specialised equipment scopes — from concept through to fabrication-ready deliverables.
- Produce and own structural calculations, design reports, and engineering deliverables to relevant offshore codes (DNV, API, ISO, AS).
- Develop constructible designs from first principles or engineer sketches, with direct input into fabrication and installation methodology.
- Supervise and check the work of CAD designers and junior engineers on project scopes — maintaining quality and schedule without losing technical ownership.
- Conduct inter-discipline reviews, clash detection, and interface checks across structural, mechanical, and piping scopes.
- Engage directly with clients on technical matters — presenting design solutions, responding to queries, and managing scope changes with confidence.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Essential:
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering (or equivalent) with a minimum 8 years' structural design experience in oil and gas, offshore, or resources.
- Demonstrated experience in detailed structural design on offshore or brownfields projects — calculations, reports, and technical deliverables you've owned end-to-end.
- Proficiency in SPACE GASS or equivalent structural analysis software; working knowledge of SACS, Strand7, or equivalent.
- Solid working knowledge of applicable offshore codes and specifications, including DNV, API, ISO and AISC — and confidence applying them to real scopes.
- Ability to translate structural designs into safe, constructible solutions and engage credibly with fabricators and construction teams.
Desirable:
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) or equivalent registration.
- Experience with subsea structural equipment design or installation support.
- Exposure to offshore installation scopes — rigging arrangements, lift plans, or storyboard development.
- Familiarity with NOPSEMA regulatory framework and Australian offshore safety case requirements.
