Residential Estimator – Home Maintenance & Renovations
Melbourne Metro | Contractor Role
Home Crew AU Pty Ltd is seeking a practical, highly organised and commercially minded Residential Estimator to join our growing Melbourne team.
This is not a traditional office-based estimating role involving complex construction software, large tenders or highly specialised estimating systems.
We are looking for someone with genuine hands-on experience in home maintenance, handyman work, building inspections, surveying, renovations or residential repairs. You must have a strong eye for detail and be confident assessing everything from small repair jobs through to larger renovation and maintenance projects.
Our core work includes decks, pergolas, rotten timber repairs, fascia and eaves, weatherboards, windows, painting, bathroom renovations and general home maintenance.
The role is predominantly field-based. You will spend most of the day travelling between appointments, working from your car with a laptop and phone, attending residential properties and meeting clients directly on site.
Main Responsibilities
- Attend multiple residential appointments across Melbourne each day
- Inspect, measure, photograph and assess required work
- Identify practical repair and renovation solutions
- Explain immediately to clients what we recommend, how the work will be completed and why
- Answer client questions confidently and justify recommended methods and materials
- Estimate labour time, materials, access requirements and job costs
- Locate suitable materials and pricing quickly
- Prepare clear and accurate quotations
- Write professional scopes of work for clients
- Provide transparent instructions, photos and job details to our tradespeople
- Follow up quotations confidently and convert suitable enquiries into confirmed work
- Represent Home Crew at meetings with real estate agencies, owners corporations, body corporates and other business partners
- Build relationships that help generate repeat and referral work
- Manage a busy schedule, phone calls, client enquiries and quotation deadlines
Requirements
- Strong practical experience in home maintenance, handyman work, renovations, building inspections, surveying or residential construction
- Ability to assess both small and larger jobs confidently
- Strong understanding of labour time, materials and practical work methods
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills
- Ability to explain technical work in clear, simple language
- Strong sales, negotiation and follow-up ability
- High-level spreadsheet skills
- Ability to research and locate materials quickly
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent multitasking and time-management skills
- Confident working independently and making decisions on site
- Professional written and spoken English
- Valid driver licence and reliable vehicle
- ABN and appropriate insurance
- Laptop, mobile phone and equipment required to perform the role
- Comfortable spending most of the day driving, on the phone and working between appointments
Trade qualifications are highly regarded but are not essential if you can demonstrate strong practical knowledge and site experience.
Important Role Requirements
This is not an office position and not a specialised software-based estimating role.
Applicants must be comfortable attending multiple appointments in different suburbs, managing their own route and working efficiently from their vehicle.
This role requires regular direct communication with homeowners, tradespeople, real estate agencies and body corporates.
You must be confident assessing work on site, explaining solutions immediately and taking responsibility for the accuracy and clarity of your quotations.
This position is not suitable for someone seeking a desk-only role, limited travel or a purely technical estimating position without client interaction or sales responsibility.
What We Offer
