We are Woolworths Group. 200,000+ bright minds, passionate hearts, and unique perspectives across Australia and New Zealand. Connected by a shared Purpose - 'to create better experiences together for a better tomorrow'. That Purpose fuels our ambition to explore new ideas, make brave commitments, and innovate better ways to meet the food and everyday needs of more than 24 million customers every week.
If you're excited to turn today's blue-sky thinking into a better tomorrow for future generations, you'll find yourself supported and enriched in a dynamic, inclusive, and empowering workplace. With a culture of genuine care, a flexible approach to work, and opportunities across the group to grow your career and make a meaningful impact, the possibilities for what we can achieve together are endless.
What you’ll do:
You’ll serve as the primary technical and design SME for Point of Sale (POS) solutions, leading the end to end lifecycle from conceptual architecture and strategic planning to configuration and operations. Partnering closely with Product Managers and Solution Architects, you will translate business vision into scalable, high-performance technical designs. You will bridge the gap between abstract strategy and execution, directing diverse technical teams, including developers, operations, and vendors, to build and implement solutions that align perfectly with core product strategy. Drive the creation of robust conceptual and logical designs. You will own the technical blueprint from initial ideation through developer handoff, ensuring the underlying architecture supports long-term scalability and business goals.
-
Pinpoint and manage architectural and process impacts early in the design phase to ensure new solutions integrate seamlessly and land smoothly without operational disruption.
-
Audit acceptance criteria and testing strategies against original technical designs to ensure every release meets engineering and functional benchmarks.
-
Lead seamless knowledge transfers of the newly designed solutions, ensuring operations and support teams are day-one ready.
-
Command high-impact incidents, problems, and changes, ensuring that operational fixes respect the integrity of the core system design.
-
Lead Major Incident investigations, unifying technical teams to resolve design-level failures or outages, while delivering crystal-clear updates to the C-suite.
-
Analyse system health trends to identify design bottlenecks, turning raw performance data into actionable architectural enhancements and better support tools.
-
Streamline processes and optimise system configurations for maximum architectural efficiency and performance.
-
Eliminate single points of failure by cross-training staff on core system designs and securing critical intellectual property.
What you’ll bring:
You have a proven capability to align emerging technology with business strategy, architecting high performance solutions that drive measurable business results. You serve as the principal technical consultant and mentor, guiding Solution Architecture (SA) and Quality Assurance (QA) teams through complex architectural decision-making, technical trade-offs, and robust design practices.
-
Over 5 years of experience driving retail store system strategies by translating emerging industry trends into scalable, forward-compatible, and highly resilient technical architectures.
-
A proven track record of navigating complex platforms and influencing diverse stakeholders to balance business vision with technical feasibility and architectural best practices.
-
Deep domain knowledge of retail IT processes and technical applications, with experience managing market-leading POS/store vendors and designing large-scale system integrations.
-
Expert understanding of the full DevOps product lifecycle and continuous delivery environments, ensuring modern engineering practices are woven directly into the solution design across Agile (Scrum/XP) and Waterfall methodologies.
-
Exceptional ability to formulate high-level technical alternatives and architectural blueprints that de-risk business strategies and ensure robust, future-proof project delivery.
-
A strong history of steering large-scale program delivery and IT operations, ensuring development requirements adhere strictly to the intended design through transparent communication and technical governance.
