The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a commercial lawyer, with experience in or enthusiasm for technology contracting, data and privacy related matters, to join our team. The role will work closely with our Senior Lawyer - Technology and a broader legal team across Digital, Brand & Enablement. The role is a permanent full time role, based in our Surry Hills, Sydney office and flexible working arrangements are available.
You will have the opportunity to work with and learn from experienced Senior Lawyers and General Counsel within our team, with genuine mentorship and training opportunities.
What you’ll do
In this role, you will provide day-to-day strategic and commercial legal advice to a range of stakeholders within the Woolworths Group.
In particular, you will be responsible for:

Providing practical and commercial advice on all aspects of information technology contracting matters (such as aaS, cloud, AI, software, hardware and related services), associated data, privacy and cyber security regulatory matters and general commercial law;

Drafting and negotiating contracts with suppliers and clients, with support from senior lawyers as required;

Working in collaboration with legal colleagues to provide seamless legal advice and commercial guidance;

Understanding our client’s business activities across a broad range of businesses within Woolworths Group; and

Partnering closely with our internal technology stakeholders including digital technology, group technology commercial, procurement, risk and privacy teams to support key decisions.
What you’ll bring
We are seeking a proactive, collaborative and curious lawyer, able to demonstrate the following:

Bachelor of Laws with 2-5 PQE legal experience (preferably gained with a reputable law firm or in-house), with proven contract drafting and negotiation experience.

Experience in technology contracting, data and privacy matters will be highly regarded (and an interest in, and willingness to learn, those things essential).

Confidence to work independently, with the judgement to escalate where required.

Sound legal and commercial judgement and a problem solving mindset.

Flexibility, with a can-do approach and a commitment to providing excellent service.

Excellent interpersonal skills, with the capacity to deal confidently with stakeholders across our business.
