Job Description
We currently have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Communications Technician to join our team at Capcoal in Middlemount QLD.
Reporting to the IM Coordinator, you are responsible for assisting in the installation, maintenance and repair of communication systems on site. These activities are undertaken in compliance with relevant legislative requirements and Capcoal Safety Health Management System.
The Communications Technician must be a motivated, self-starter acting in a manner which supports delivering departmental plans and continuous improvement objectives:

Foster collaborative relationships with team members, ensuring that Anglo American’s culture and values are promoted in all interactions.

Respond to business-critical events as required

Participate in safety processes as required including root cause analysis, risk assessments, and SOP reviews

Travel across site to respond to tasks
In addition, you will contribute significantly to the leadership of the site and work collaboratively with team members to deliver on the business plan. With this you will also be responsible for the development and implementation of the site strategy, monitor and managing the performance of the mine site against set plans and working as an effective leader and team member by demonstrating a commitment to safety and positive work behaviours.
With the systems in place the Communication Technician is responsible for leading and facilitating the implementation of all people, safety, technical and operating business systems. It will also be imperative you are able to ensure overall compliance with all systems and provide governance to ensure the system is optimized and when possible improved.
Qualifications

Certificate III in Telecommunications with Austel Licence and relevant cabling endorsements (Optical Fibre, Structured Cabling, Coaxial, Underground and Aerial).

Experience in telecommunications maintenance within mining or heavy industrial environments.

Working knowledge of SAP Maintenance Systems and business data reporting.

Strong mechanical aptitude with experience supporting mobile and fixed mining equipment.

Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement, best practice, and business-aligned strategies.

Strong stakeholder engagement, communication, and negotiation skills.

Proven strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making capability.
-
Adaptable, self-motivated, and able to work autonomously in a dynamic environment.

Strong commitment to safety across both field and office-based operations.
Experience or familiarity with the following software:
-
Experience installing, configuring and maintaining radio and communications equipment, including Tait systems and UHF, VHF and FM networks.

Experience deploying and supporting wireless networks, including Rajant Mesh, Cambium Point-to-Point (PtP) and Point-to-Multipoint (PtMP) systems, or similar technologies.

Ability to configure, integrate and troubleshoot third-party communications hardware and devices.

Working knowledge of Hexagon systems, including Collision Avoidance Systems (CAS) and Operator Alertness Systems (OAS).
-
Experience with Rajant BC Commander software.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
