About Alvarez & Marsal
Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is a global consulting firm with over 10,000 entrepreneurial, action and results-oriented professionals in over 40 countries. We take a hands-on approach to solving our clients' problems and assisting them in reaching their potential. Our culture celebrates independent thinkers and doers who positively impact our clients and shape our industry. The collaborative environment and engaging work—guided by A&M's core values of Integrity, Quality, Objectivity, Fun, Personal Reward, and Inclusive Diversity—are why our people love working at A&M.
The Team
A&M's Operational Risk Management teams helps clients manage risk from the boardroom to the front line. At enterprise level we design the frameworks, taxonomies and reporting that give boards a clear view of principal and emerging risks. At operational level we address the risk of loss arising from inadequate or failed internal processes, people and systems, and from external events, strengthening controls, resilience and risk data across the three lines of defense. We also provide independent assurance over the areas that matter most to boards, risk and audit committees, regulators and investors. Built on deep sector expertise and A&M's hands-on, operator-led approach, we support clients through growth, transformation, transaction and distress.
How you will contribute
A&M continues to expand its ORM and ERM capability, and we are looking to recruit a Director or a Senior Director to be based in Australia. Working with some of the industry's brightest and most experienced colleagues, you will:
- Lead the execution of complex Operational Risk Management (ORM) and Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) work fronts with expertise, identifying improvement initiatives and actively engaging with the client in all phases of the engagement.
- Own the design and implementation of integrated risk frameworks that connect enterprise-level principal risks to an operational risk taxonomy, control libraries and risk registers.
- Lead and develop board and executive risk discussions, covering principal and emerging risk assessment, risk appetite setting, and the cascade into operational tolerances, key risk indicators and escalation protocols.
- Provide senior oversight and challenge across risk control programs, control testing, operational risk event and loss data, scenario analysis and remediation, holding accountability for the quality and defensibility of conclusions.
- Develop, lead and deliver Safety Culture assessments, HSE management system reviews, leadership training and coaching, and other HSE-related engagements.
- Advise on risk governance and operational resilience, including three lines of defense accountabilities, committee structures, policy frameworks, critical business services, impact tolerances and third-party risk.
- Act as engagement quality reviewer on assurance activity, safeguarding objectivity, independence and adherence to recognised professional standards.
- Lead meetings and presentations with both client and A&M's managerial and executive levels, including at risk and audit committee level, demonstrating confidence and mastery of the topics discussed.
- Assume a leadership role with teams and clients, participating in effective negotiations and collaborations between leaders, and mentoring managers and junior colleagues.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients.
- Develop and manage strategic partnerships for business growth, and participate in events and associations to foster relationships and identify opportunities.
- Actively develop a quality pipeline of work and build the A&M brand, in the local market and support global business development efforts, where required.
- Lead and co-develop internal A&M approaches, playbooks and other intellectual property.
- Work with a creative mindset to co-create solutions and offer innovative approaches to address client risk challenges.
- Take advantage of industry network and influence to identify and develop new business opportunities for the Risk and Assurance practice and other Business Units.
- Experience in areas such as Psychosocial Safety, Process Safety Management, Crisis Management, Critical Risk Management and Change Management will be advantageous.
- Proven experience in this type of role would be advantageous
