The opportunity
As a Building Site Compliance Officer, you will help protect the safety, amenity and wellbeing of the Hobsons Bay community by monitoring and enforcing compliance across building sites, subdivisions and public land. Working within Council's Planning, Building and Health Services team, you'll undertake inspections, investigate breaches, educate stakeholders and apply legislation and local laws to achieve positive compliance outcomes.
What you’ll do
- Conduct inspections of building sites and subdivisions to ensure legislative and permit compliance.
- Investigate complaints, breaches and non-compliance matters.
- Issue warnings, infringements and undertake enforcement activities where required.
- Provide advice and education to builders, contractors, developers and the community.
- Prepare reports, evidence and documentation for legal and compliance proceedings.
- Participate in after hours and weekend roster work, as required, inspecting building sites for compliance and enforcement.
What you need to succeed
- Qualification in Building, Construction, Local Government, Compliance or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Experience interpreting and enforcing legislation, regulations and local laws.
- Strong investigation, inspection and evidence-gathering skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality customer service outcomes.

Pre-Employment Requirements
Progressed candidates will be required to complete a National Police Record Check, a Pre-Employment Medical Check & a Working With Children Check (WWCC). Candidates must also hold a valid Victorian Driver's License and current Construction Induction Card (White Card).
Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa with full unrestricted working rights. Work eligibility will be checked as part of the recruitment process.
