The opportunity
As a Senior Building Site Compliance Officer, you'll play a key role in protecting community safety and amenity across Hobsons Bay. Working within the Planning, Building and Health Services team, you'll undertake site inspections, investigate compliance issues, provide expert advice to industry stakeholders, and lead complex enforcement matters. This is an opportunity to apply your regulatory expertise, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and help ensure building sites, subdivisions and public spaces meet legislative and local law requirements.
What you’ll do
- Conduct inspections and investigations of building sites and subdivisions to ensure legislative and local law compliance.
- Investigate complaints, gather evidence, issue infringements and prepare prosecution matters when required.
- Provide specialist advice, education and technical guidance to residents, builders, developers and contractors.
- Represent Council in complex, sensitive or high-risk compliance and enforcement matters.
- Contribute to process improvement, reporting, compliance programs and mentoring of colleagues.
- Participate in after hours and weekend roster work, as required, inspecting building sites for compliance and enforcement, including responding to complex or escalated compliance matters where required.
What you need to succeed
- Degree, diploma or equivalent qualification in Building, Construction, Compliance, Local Government or related field, or substantial relevant experience.
- Strong experience in inspections, investigations, evidence gathering and enforcement activities.
- Sound knowledge of Victorian Building legislation, Local Government legislation and Council Local Laws.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching or supervisory experience.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and conflict resolution skills.

Pre-Employment Requirements
Progressed candidates will be required to complete a National Police Record Check, a Pre-Employment Medical Check & a Working With Children Check (WWCC). Candidates must also hold a valid Victorian Driver's License and current Construction Induction Card (White Card).
