Primary objective
To provide expertise and a high standard of clinical practice in Addiction Medicine, contributing to the provision of efficient and
effective alcohol and other drugs services to Alice Springs and other communities in Central Australia.

Context statement
Based on the Alice Springs Hospital campus, Alcohol and other Drug Services Central Australia (ADSCA), provides treatment and
support to people affected by alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. We deliver a comprehensive, culturally safe, and responsive,
integrated service through a harm-minimisation, trauma-informed model of care. We provide multi-disciplinary clinical care across
outpatient and inpatient settings as well as collaborating with, and supporting external, community-based service providers.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead and support a multi-disciplinary team in all aspects of day-to-day Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) service delivery;
2. Deliver high quality care in addiction medicine and coordinate medically-managed care of patients across inpatient, outpatient

and telehealth prison in-reach and remote community services, inclusive of opioid pharmacotherapy;
3. Supervise, educate and appraise registrars, junior medical officers and medical students;
4. Promote and contribute to a culture of learning and continuous practice improvement within the multi-disciplinary team,

implementing evidence-based skills and knowledge;
5. Participate in clinical governance including developing clinical guidelines, service protocols and quality improvement projects;
6. Support and contribute to research initiatives within the organisation;
7. Follow defined service quality standards and work health and safety policies and procedures in order to ensure high-quality,

safe, services and workplaces;
8. Foster a positive workplace culture through exemplary leadership and role modelling.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Have or be eligible for specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA);
2. Have Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Addiction Medicine, Royal Australian College of Physicians. Applicants with

other relevant Australasian Specialist College (including Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, Addiction
Psychiatry certificate, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners or Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine)
qualifications and experience in clinical Addiction Medicine practice will be considered;

3. Eligibility to obtain registration as an opioid pharmacotherapy prescriber in the Northern Territory;
4. Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with stakeholders and service

providers;
5. Demonstrated leadership skills with experience and initiative in delivering educational and training activities to healthcare

students and staff;
6. Willingness to undertake cultural safety training and demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from diverse

cultures and language groups;
7. Capacity to work collaboratively and provide inter-disciplinary care to patients within Alice Springs Hospital.
