Are you an experienced asset management professional who enjoys leading teams, working collaboratively and delivering operational outcomes that make a real difference?
The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) is seeking a Senior Asset Officer to support the management of Forest Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) fleet assets and help ensure critical operational capability is available when and where it is needed.
This is an opportunity to join a purpose-driven team responsible for ensuring fleet assets are safe, reliable, compliant and operationally ready to support both day-to-day activities and emergency response operations. You will work closely with operational teams, suppliers, contractors and stakeholders to improve asset performance, maintenance planning, lifecycle management and fleet readiness across Victoria.
As a Senior Asset Officer, you will contribute to strengthening asset management practices by developing asset class plans, monitoring performance, managing compliance requirements and supporting evidence-based decision making. You will also lead a small team and play a key role in delivering continuous improvement initiatives across the fleet portfolio.
About the role
You will bring:
- experience managing assets across their lifecycle, including maintenance, compliance and performance monitoring
- demonstrated project management and change management experience
- the ability to develop and maintain asset class plans aligned with the Victorian Government Asset Management Accountability Framework (AMAF)
- strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret asset performance, risk and financial information and provide practical recommendations
- experience working with operational stakeholders, service providers and contractors
- the ability to lead and develop a small team while fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- experience managing asset-related budgets, expenditure and performance reporting
- a focus on safety, innovation, customer service and operational reliability
- a relevant degree, diploma or trade qualification
- a current driver's licence and willingness to obtain higher class licences if required
- a forklift licence (LF), or willingness to obtain one if required.
This role may require physically demanding activities including heavy lifting, prolonged standing and work in restricted or awkward environments. Significant travel across Victoria may be required, along with participation in emergency management activities during peak operational periods.

Specialist/Technical Expertise/Qualifications
- Successful project management and change management delivery experience
- Demonstrated ability to develop and govern AMAF aligned asset class plans, oversee lifecycle, maintenance and statutory compliance, and translate performance, risk and financial insights into clear executive advice.
- Relevant degree / diploma / trade qualification is required.
- Forklift licence (LF) and/or willingness to obtain if required.
- Current driver licence appropriate to the fleet (and ability to obtain higher class licence if required).
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including heavy lifting, sustained standing and work in restricted or awkward environments.
This is an ongoing position. The work location for this position is Kyle Road, Altona North with hybrid work arrangements available.
