Ventia delivers complex transport infrastructure and technology solutions across Victoria’s major road network. The VIMC contract involves the operation, maintenance and performance management of critical Intelligent Transport Systems, traffic signal assets, communications networks, electrical infrastructure and associated roadside technology across live traffic environments.
These assets include traffic signal sites, signal controllers, lanterns, detector systems, pedestrian facilities, communications networks, CCTV, VMS, vehicle detection systems, over height detection, travel time systems, roadside cabinets, field devices, power supplies and associated network interfaces.
About the role
The Senior Engineer – Signals and ITS provides technical leadership and engineering expertise for traffic signal and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) assets. The role supports complex fault diagnosis, technical investigations, recurring issue resolution, asset reliability improvements, standards compliance, engineering assurance, and testing and commissioning activities.
Acting as the key technical escalation point for field teams, project engineers, planners, QA, commercial teams, and clients, the position delivers expert guidance on traffic signal operations, ITS devices, detection systems, communications networks, and electrical infrastructure. The role requires a highly experienced subject matter expert who can troubleshoot complex problems, provide clear technical direction, ensure compliance, and support informed decision-making across maintenance operations.
About you

Relevant engineering qualification in Electrical, Communications, Systems Engineering, Electronics, Transport Technology, or a related discipline.

7+ years' experience in traffic signals, Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), electrical infrastructure, communications networks, or road network operations.

Expert technical knowledge of traffic signal assets and ITS technologies, including controllers, detectors, CCTV, VMS, communications equipment, and roadside infrastructure.

Strong expertise in fault diagnosis, root cause analysis, testing, commissioning, asset handover, and maintenance support for complex transport technology systems.

Proven technical leadership and communication skills, with the ability to interpret standards and technical documentation, engage stakeholders, mentor teams, and ensure compliance with safety and operational requirements.
