About the Role
As a Teacher at Ohana College, you will deliver engaging learning experiences that meet students where they are, helping them build confidence, develop skills and achieve meaningful educational outcomes.
Working closely with our multidisciplinary team of Teacher Aides, Youth Workers and Wellbeing staff, you'll be supported to create positive learning experiences that focus on student success both inside and outside the classroom.
Reporting to the Principal, you will play an important role in delivering high-quality education to young people in an alternative learning environment. You will use flexible and individualised teaching approaches to engage students, support their academic progress and help them develop the skills and confidence needed for successful future pathways.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Curriculum Delivery: Planning and delivering Australian Curriculum and QCAA curriculum appropriate to the relevant year level.
- Individualised Learning: Developing flexible, differentiated and targeted learning approaches that respond to individual student needs.
- Student Engagement: Building positive relationships with students and using engaging teaching strategies to encourage participation and re-engagement with education.
- Assessment & Reporting: Monitoring academic progress, maintaining accurate student records and contributing to academic reporting, assessment and moderation requirements.
- Behaviour & Wellbeing: Supporting students experiencing behavioural, social, emotional and learning challenges using positive and appropriate strategies.
- Collaborative Support: Working closely with Youth Workers, Teacher Aides, Welfare staff and external providers to support student learning and wellbeing.
- Pastoral Care: Providing pastoral care and contributing to a safe, respectful and inclusive learning environment.
- Pathways: Supporting students to identify appropriate education, training and employment pathways and contributing to individual learning and development plans.
- Co-Curricular Activities: Supporting group activities, co-curricular programs and other opportunities that build student strengths, confidence and skills.
Selection Criteria –Teacher:
- Demonstrate a flexible and highly engaging teaching approach with an emphasis on building relationships with challenging students to achieve academic outcomes.
- Experience and knowledge of The Australian Curriculum.
- Practical knowledge and understanding of the NCCD/EAP process and its implementation within the classroom (or a willingness to learn)
- Current full teaching/provisional registration with Queensland College of Teachers or an ability to gain registration in Queensland.
- Experience teaching and/or working with young people at-risk and students with disabilities.
- Understanding of social and emotional learning in a Secondary School context.
- Workplace resilience and an ability to work under pressure.
