At wiq, we're reimagining retail. As a partnership between Woolworths Group and Quantium, we harness data science to solve complex challenges and create better experiences for millions of customers. We're looking for a passionate Data Scientist to join our dynamic team and drive the next wave of innovation in advanced analytics and AI. Our work spans the entire Woolworths business—from customer loyalty and personalisation to eCommerce, store operations, supply chain, ranging, and pricing.
What you'll do
As a Data Scientist, you'll apply advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to solve complex business problems across diverse domains including personalisation, loyalty, supply chain optimisation, and generative AI applications.
End-to-End Solutions: Implementing end-to-end data science solutions, from data extraction and feature engineering through to model development, evaluation, and deployment with appropriate monitoring and validation.
Agentic AI & Machine Learning: Applying statistical and machine learning expertise (GLMs, clustering, optimization, XGBoost, deep learning) alongside modern Generative AI techniques. Designing and deploying agentic workflows, utilizing LLMs, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), and multi-agent systems to deliver intelligent, conversational commerce solutions.
Production Standards: Writing production-level code following established standards, conducting peer reviews, and promoting best practices in analytics, source control (git), and quality assurance frameworks.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborating with cross-functional teams—including engineers, product managers, front-end developers, and business stakeholders—to translate business requirements into technical specifications. You will play a key role in ensuring agentic AI solutions and AI-driven support tools are embedded effectively into the customer journey.
Mentorship & Capability Building: Mentoring junior data scientists, providing technical guidance, and contributing to team capability building through knowledge sharing, particularly in the rapidly evolving space of Agentic AI and prompt engineering.
Stakeholder Communication: Communicating complex insights effectively to diverse audiences, translating technical concepts into business impact, and presenting methodology and model logic with the appropriate level of detail.
What you'll bring
We're seeking a technically skilled and business-savvy individual who can bridge the gap between data science and commercial outcomes. The ideal candidate will have:
4+ years of hands-on experience in a data science role, with demonstrated ability to deliver impactful analytical solutions in production environments.
Strong technical proficiency in multiple coding languages (e.g., Python, SQL), with expert-level skills in exploratory data analysis and data manipulation.
Solid foundation in statistical and machine learning techniques, with proven experience implementing model evaluation strategies and identifying improvement opportunities.
Experience working with cloud platforms (preferably GCP products like BigQuery, Vertex AI, GCS), with consideration for cost efficiency and best practices.
Tertiary qualifications in engineering, mathematics, actuarial studies, statistics, physics, computer science, or a related quantitative discipline.
Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to manage expectations, communicate progress proactively, and adapt communication style to different audiences.
Systematic problem-solving abilities and experience troubleshooting complex technical issues within cloud platforms independently.
