Primary objective
The Director Park Partnerships is responsible for the effective and efficient functioning of Aboriginal Partnerships, Community
Engagement and Volunteer Programs, as well as providing strategic advice of those functions and divisional policy development.

Context statement
The position sits within the Park Development and Strategic Projects branch, which is responsible for park development through
strategic plans, programs and projects; legal, policy, land administration and interpretation and infrastructure programs; park
management plans, as well as Aboriginal, volunteer and community engagement.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the development of Aboriginal partnerships, community engagement and volunteer functions to support the delivery of

effective, high-quality services that meet the Department’s corporate objectives and values.
2. Work in partnership with the other branches within the Division to ensure that policies, programs and services meet key

objectives and achieve a high standard of service delivery aligned with Divisional priorities.
3. Lead and develop a regionally dispersed team and ensure a culture of continuous improvement, high achievement,

accountability, innovation and high interpersonal skills, including management of human, financial, procurement and contract
resources to deliver agreed programs, projects and services within delegation and budget.

4. Provide quality strategic and operational advice and information, reports and recommendations to the Senior Directors and
Senior Executive Director, actively support the Executive Leadership Team in risk planning, assessment and management,
including matters relating to land rights, native title and related legislative and governance matters affecting the parks estate.

5. Develop and maintain effective collaborative partnerships, strategic alliances and networks internal and external, to drive the
achievement of objectives.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, Aboriginal partnerships in a protected area context or similar, including joint

management planning and governance, Aboriginal employment and participation programs, and broader Northern Territory
and Commonwealth governance and funding arrangements including Aboriginal Ranger compliance initiatives.

2. Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, volunteer management, community engagement and safety awareness
programs both within a protected area environment and with a wider community outreach focus.

3. Demonstrated high-level communication, interpersonal and consultation skills, with the ability to build and sustain professional
relationships, understand stakeholder perspectives and political sensitivities.

4. Well-developed strategic and operational rational at a senior management level and ability to exercise sound judgement, draw
evidence-based solutions to complex issues and prioritise tasks to deliver outputs efficiently.

5. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop regionally dispersed teams, and ensure a culture of continuous improvement, high
achievement, accountability, innovation and high interpersonal skills; and ability to manage personnel and financial resources
to deliver on key projects.

6. Demonstrated program management, analytical, risk management and change management skills.

Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (anthropology, community development, resource management, education).
