The AWS Region Services team combines AWS global cloud leadership with Australian security expertise to deliver highly secure, scalable environments for sensitive workloads. We’re creating innovative ways to use cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and machine learning while maintaining the highest standards of security and operational excellence.

The Engineering organisation within Region Services is structured across core capability pillars: Compute & Machine Learning, Security Identity & Compliance, Storage & Databases, and a growing capability domain. Collectively these pillars encompass a team of varying technical skillsets, including Engineers; Technical Program Managers and Subject Matter Experts, organised into focused sub-teams.

Key job responsibilities

Define, build, own, and run services in high growth environments
Solve unique and first-order problems in massive-scale areas such as compute services, DynamoDB/NoSQL databases, Glacier, S3 data lakes and many other AWS Services
Learn how to build and operate distributed systems at massive scale
Build and influence the tools and utilities that are part of the AWS fleet running our internal services

A day in the life
On a typical day engineers might deep dive to determine the root cause of a customer issue, investigate why a metric is trending the wrong way, consult with the top engineers at Amazon, or discuss radical new approaches to automate operational issues.

As a Systems Analyst; you would own supporting activities for these services, and regularly work with development teams to establish and improve service support. You will operate with guidance from your team and quickly drive issues to resolution. You understand the business logic and architecture of your supported services that enable you to regularly resolve undocumented trouble tickets. You regularly contribute to the creation and improvement of support documentation. You may perform code builds and deployments, communicating status regularly before, during, and after each deployment. You create and interpret metrics that measure support success and service performance.

About the team
Region Services provides the highest caliber Operational Solutions and Cleared Support for services within our Regions. We provide 'hands on keyboard' support to our service teams by deploying changes into these isolated regions, monitoring the results, and reporting any issues that are observed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with systems administration on either Linux/UNIX or Windows operating systems
Experience with support procedures and methodologies for production computing environments
Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery
Knowledge of networking fundamentals
Knowledge of scripting languages (bash, python, etc.)
Experience writing and publishing technical documents or equivalent
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience
