About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Capital Works Project Manager to lead the delivery of the 2026-2027 Kindergarten Capital Works Upgrade Program.
Funded by the Queensland Department of Education, this exciting program will support community kindergartens across Queensland to undertake capital upgrades that strengthen child safety, improve supervision and security, and implement the National Child Safety Reforms.
This is a unique opportunity to combine project management, stakeholder engagement and governance to deliver meaningful improvements for children and communities throughout Queensland.
This role is full time, on a fixed-term contract until 30 June 2027, aligned with the Department of Education Capital Works Upgrade Program. Regular travel throughout Queensland will be required to support project delivery and stakeholder engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the Capital Works Upgrade Program from application through to project completion.
- Assess funding applications against program eligibility and assessment criteria.
- Provide advice to services on project scope, procurement requirements and funding conditions.
- Develop project plans, budgets, milestones and risk management strategies.
- Monitor project progress, expenditure and compliance with funding agreements.
- Coordinate building reports, quotations, approvals, licences and project documentation.
- Liaise with builders, contractors, local councils and regulatory authorities.
- Conduct site visits across Queensland to monitor project delivery.
- Manage project risks and provide timely escalation where required.
- Prepare reports for Executive Leadership and the Department of Education.
- Ensure all projects meet contractual obligations, funding requirements and record keeping standards.
- Support services through practical project management advice and governance throughout delivery.

About You
You are an organised project professional who enjoys working collaboratively and solving problems. You can confidently manage multiple projects while building strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
You will ideally have:
- Demonstrated experience managing building or minor capital works projects.
- Strong project planning, budgeting and contract management experience.
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Strong understanding of procurement and contractor management.
- High level organisational and documentation skills.
- Ability to interpret funding agreements, policies and compliance requirements.
- Current Queensland Driver Licence and willingness to travel.
Desirable however not essential:
- Qualification in Project Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or a related discipline.
- Experience working within education, local government, community or not-for-profit sectors.
- Knowledge of Queensland building approval processes.
- Understanding of child-safe environments and risk management.
- Experience administering government grant-funded projects.

- Ensuring projects meet funding objectives and contractual requirements.
- Supporting services to successfully complete projects within budget and timeframes.
- Maintaining strong governance, financial oversight and compliance.
- Building positive relationships with affiliate services and contractors.
- Providing high-quality reporting and project assurance to Executive Leadership and the Department of Education.
