About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Discovery Coordinator (Visitor Experience Programs) to contribute to the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage through engaging visitor and community programs. Based in Katoomba, you will be part of the Visitor Experience team, supporting the planning, delivery and continuous improvement of visitor experiences across the Branch and contributing to a diverse portfolio of programs that connect people with parks, conservation and culture.

Through coordinating Discovery corporate volunteering programs, supporting branch-wide volunteering initiatives and contributing to Discovery leisure and education programs as required, you will help foster meaningful connections with national parks and contribute to the delivery of Visitor Experience initiatives. The role works collaboratively with volunteers, corporate partners, community groups and internal stakeholders to support program delivery and administration, ensuring activities are well organised, compliant and aligned with NPWS objectives. Working alongside an established Discovery Coordinator who has primary responsibility for Discovery guided walks, talks and excursions, each position maintains separate program responsibilities and work collaboratively to support visitor engagement, community participation and high-quality Discovery experiences across the Branch.

About You

To be successful in the role, you will have:

Demonstrated skills and experience in the development and delivery of educational, interpretive or community volunteer programs for groups in a cultural or field setting.
Demonstrated understanding of interpretation principles and experience supporting engaging visitor experiences that connect people with natural and cultural heritage.
Sound understanding of risk management, minimal impact and bush safety principles in relation to outdoor visitor or volunteer programs.
Strong communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
Demonstrated organisational and administrative skills, including experience in program administration, reporting, scheduling, record management, human resources and budget management to support the effective and financially sustainable delivery of programs.

Current Working with Children Check
Senior First Aid Certificate
Demonstrated skills and experience in the development and delivery of guided educational activities activities for families, school students and community groups in a cultural or field setting.
Demonstrated understanding of the role of Interpretation and experience in developing and including interpretive techniques during a guided tour or activity.
Sound understanding of Risk Management, Minimal Impact and Bush Safety principles in relation to guided tours in a cultural or field setting.
