Primary objective
Provide high level advice and direction for the operations of NT parks and reserves across the region, lead the regional
operations team and contribute to the wider divisional and Departmental outcomes as a member of the Parks and Wildlife
Executive Leadership Team and Departmental Leadership Group.

Context statement
The Director is responsible for the strategic leadership and operational management of Central Australian Parks region
operations and reports directly to the Senior Director Parks and Wildlife Operations.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level advice, reports and recommendations to the Senior Director and executive team on regional park

management matters.
2. In accordance with legislative, policy and planning commitments, oversee management of the operations of parks and

reserves in the region, including natural resource management, nature-based recreation, conservation and Joint
Management programs; contribute to infrastructure development and maintenance; and enhance commercial
opportunities and partnerships.

3. Lead a regional team to effectively and efficiently manage operations, including management of safety, human resources,
financial performance, planning and scheduling, and stakeholder interactions.

4. Liaise and negotiate with contacts in industry, government agencies, local government, academic institutions and
community groups, Aboriginal organisations and Traditional Owners.

5. Monitor and regulate issues, and compliance of permits as set out in legislation, licences and related agreements.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Proven ability to provide high level advice and management for the operations of NT parks and reserves.
2. High level management and leadership skills with proven ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team and to obtain support

and commitment to the achievement of Departmental objectives.
3. Proven ability to effectively manage human and financial resources to achieve business objectives.
4. High level business planning, program and project management skills.
5. Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, collaborative and communication skills and demonstrated success to build strong,

effective relationships with diverse partners, especially in intercultural contexts.
6. High level strategic, conceptual, analytical and creative skills, including an ability to understand political, social, economic

and organisational environments and integrate this knowledge into advice.
7. High level knowledge and experience in developing and managing environmental programs with a demonstrated ability

to establish and achieve program targets.
8. High level knowledge of current best practices in national park/reserve management and biodiversity conservation at

species and landscape levels.

Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline.
2. Sound knowledge of the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976 and enforcement procedures, or similar

legislation.

Further information
The Director may be required to travel to regional centres and remote parks on occasion.
