Junction Support Services is looking for an experienced Team Manager to lead our Intensive Case Management Services (ICMS) team in Wodonga.
ICMS works with young people subject to statutory child protection orders who are experiencing significant risk and complex circumstances. These young people require an intensive, specialised response, and the team supporting them needs strong practice leadership behind them.
That’s where you come in.
As Team Manager, you’ll lead and support our Case Managers and Education Support staff, providing the day-to-day guidance, supervision and experienced judgement they need to navigate complex cases while maintaining high standards of care and practice.
You’ll be a key source of support when situations become challenging, helping your team assess risk, respond to competing priorities and make sound decisions while keeping the needs, goals and aspirations of each young person at the centre of their work.
This is a key leadership role for someone with a strong background in community services, child and family services or a related field who is ready to lead people, strengthen practice and support positive outcomes for young people experiencing complex circumstances.
As Team Manager, you’ll be the day-to-day leadership and practice support for our ICMS Case Managers and Education Support staff.
No two days will look exactly the same. You might start the morning checking in with a Case Manager about a young person whose circumstances have changed overnight, help the team assess risk and determine the next steps, then join a Care Team or Case Plan meeting with DFFH and other services.
Later, you could be providing supervision to a staff member, reviewing an upcoming Court Report, working through a challenging stakeholder issue, checking that caseloads are covered while someone is on leave, or coaching a newer team member through an area of practice they’re still developing.
A big part of your role is being the person your team can turn to when a case becomes complex, priorities compete or a situation requires experienced judgement and direction. The PD specifically identifies supporting staff with challenging behaviours and competing crisis demands, alongside ongoing coaching and operational support.
You’ll also keep an eye on the bigger picture, making sure the program is operating effectively, risks and emerging issues are escalated appropriately, reporting and case management requirements are being met, and staff have what they need to do their jobs well.

Leading your team – providing monthly formal supervision as well as regular day-to-day support, coaching and guidance.

Supporting complex case decisions – helping staff work through risk, challenging behaviours, crises and competing client needs.

Keeping practice on track – making sure case management reflects relevant practice frameworks and remains client-centred, strengths-based and compliant.

Monitoring the practical details – keeping an eye on caseloads, leave, TOIL and coverage so young people continue to receive consistent support.

Overseeing key documentation and deadlines – including Case Plan Reviews, Court Reports, quarterly DFFH reporting, client records and program data.

Developing your people – supporting new employees to become confident and proficient in their roles and providing ongoing coaching and performance support.

Working across the service system – attending Care Team Meetings, Case Plan Meetings and other professional meetings and working with DFFH, education providers, health services and community organisations.

Managing issues as they arise – responding to concerns or informal complaints from young people, families, colleagues and external stakeholders.

Keeping leadership informed – identifying emerging program issues and risks and working closely with the Care Services leadership team to respond.

Contributing to after-hours leadership – participating in Junction’s On-Call Duty Manager roster.
You’re an experienced community services professional who understands that good leadership in complex services requires both strong practice knowledge and strong people skills.
You can provide clear direction while remaining approachable and supportive, and you’re comfortable making decisions and managing competing priorities when situations are complex.
You understand the impact of trauma on young people and can support staff to maintain safe, consistent, person-centred and strengths-based practice.
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

A relevant tertiary qualification such as Social Work, Community Services or Disability, and/or relevant experience in a similar position

A strong understanding of the developmental and therapeutic needs of young people who have experienced complex trauma and require protective care

Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to provide direction, support and coaching to staff

Experience identifying, assessing and responding to risk

Strong interpersonal skills and an empathetic, non-judgemental approach

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong negotiation, conflict resolution and crisis management capabilities.

Full time – 76 hours per fortnight

- Hours worked Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 6.30pm
The position also participates in Junction’s after-hours On-Call Duty Manager roster. There may also be occasions where the Team Manager is required to support Junction’s residential services where operationally required.
