About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Speech Pathologist to join our team.
The Speech Pathologist will assess and support participants with communication needs, including speech, receptive and expressive language, social communication, literacy, fluency, voice, and mealtime or swallowing needs where these are within the clinician’s qualifications and scope of practice.
You will work collaboratively with participants and their support networks to develop meaningful goals that improve communication, independence, participation, and quality of life.
A key part of this position is multidisciplinary collaboration. You will work closely with families, educators, occupational therapists, behaviour practitioners, allied health assistants, and other professionals to provide coordinated and consistent support.
Applicants do not need extensive multidisciplinary or NDIS experience, provided they are willing to participate in training, supervision, feedback, and reflective practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct formal and informal assessments of speech, language, communication, literacy, fluency, voice, and mealtime or swallowing needs, as appropriate to your competence and scope of practice.
- Develop individualised, functional, and meaningful therapy goals in collaboration with participants and their families.
- Deliver evidence-informed interventions across clinic, home, school, community, and telehealth settings.
- Use neurodiversity-affirming approaches that respect each participant’s identity, autonomy, communication preferences, sensory needs, and individual ways of interacting.
- Support participants who use different forms of communication, including speech, gestures, visual supports, and augmentative and alternative communication.
- Provide practical strategies, education, and coaching to families, educators, support workers, and other members of the participant’s support team.
- Collaborate with occupational therapists, behaviour practitioners, educators, and other professionals while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and scope of practice.
- Prepare clear and accurate clinical notes, assessment reports, progress reports, therapy plans, and recommendations.
- Monitor participant progress and adjust goals and interventions in response to outcomes, preferences, and changing needs.
- Contribute to multidisciplinary case discussions, team meetings, professional development, and service improvement activities.
- Supervise and mentor Allied Health Assistants, where appropriate, to support safe, consistent, and high-quality implementation of delegated therapy programs.
- Maintain compliance with Speech Pathology Australia standards, NDIS requirements, privacy obligations, and organisational policies.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech Pathology from an accredited Australian program, or an overseas qualification formally recognised in Australia.
- Current membership with Speech Pathology Australia, or eligibility to obtain membership.
- Eligibility for Certified Practising Speech Pathologist status is highly regarded.
- Commitment to neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based, trauma-informed, and person-centred practice.
- Strong clinical reasoning and the ability to develop functional, evidence-informed interventions.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and clearly with participants, families, educators, and other professionals.
- Willingness to collaborate across disciplines, contribute to shared goals, and learn from other members of the participant’s support team.
- Openness to supervision, mentoring, feedback, and ongoing professional development.
- Ability to manage a caseload, organise competing responsibilities, and maintain timely clinical documentation.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative team.
- Experience in paediatrics, disability, community health, private practice, or the NDIS is advantageous but not essential.
- New graduates with a strong commitment to learning and collaborative practice are encouraged to apply.
- Current Australian driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle for community-based appointments.
- Current Working with Children Check, National Police Check, and NDIS Worker Screening Check, or willingness to obtain them.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification, or willingness to obtain them.
