Allied Health Assistant – Paediatric OT and Speech Program

The Care Team Network is seeking an Allied Health Assistant to deliver face-to-face paediatric occupational therapy and speech pathology sessions across Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
This role would be well suited to:
- An Occupational Therapy or Speech Pathology student looking to build practical paediatric experience
- A current Allied Health Assistant working in a paediatric setting
- Someone confident engaging with children of mixed ages and supporting individual therapy goals
The successful applicant will deliver structured intervention programs developed and overseen by an Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist. Sessions will generally run for approximately one hour and may focus on areas such as:
- Fine motor and handwriting skills
- Emotional regulation
- Attention and participation
- Play and social engagement
- Daily routines and independence
- Sensory-based strategies
- Gross motor and coordination activities
- Receptive and expressive language development
- Speech sound practice
- Social communication skills
- Following instructions and understanding language
- Early literacy and communication skills
- Use of visual supports or alternative communication strategies
The treating Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist will complete the initial assessment, develop the individualised intervention program and review the child’s progress regularly. The AHA will receive clear session plans, ongoing guidance and clinical support from the relevant allied health professional.

- Regular supervision and program reviews with an Occupational Therapist or Speech Pathologist

Essential requirements
- Currently studying Occupational Therapy or Speech Pathology, or holding a relevant Allied Health Assistant qualification
- Experience working with children, preferably within a paediatric therapy, disability, education or support setting
- Strong communication and rapport-building skills
- Ability to follow delegated therapy programs and provide clear session feedback
- Reliable, organised and comfortable working independently
- Current Working with Children Check
- Current police check
- Appropriate professional and public liability insurance
- ABN and ability to work as a subcontractor
- Current driver’s licence and access to a reliable vehicle
Experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, developmental delay, sensory processing differences, communication difficulties or functional skill development would be highly regarded.
