About The Team
The College of Environmental and Life Sciences (ELS) was established in 2023 to strengthen cross-disciplinary collaboration, enhance academic expertise, and advance excellence in research and teaching across the life sciences.
The College comprises four Schools:
- Agricultural Sciences
- Environmental and Conservation Sciences
- Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences
- Veterinary Medicine
The School of Medical, Molecular and Forensic Sciences (MMFS) is dedicated to developing critically minded scientists equipped with both strong theoretical foundations and practical skills to lead future advances in their fields. The School’s research spans diverse and impactful areas, including human health, infectious diseases and antimicrobial resistance, immunology, cancer biology, food production and quality, nutrition, and forensic science.
MMFS offers engaging undergraduate and postgraduate programs and is committed to delivering a high-quality educational experience. A key element of this role will be to teach into, and support the quality of, the professionally accredited Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine.
Your New Role!
A Lecturer (Level B) academic will undertake independent teaching and research in their discipline or related area. In research and/or scholarship and/or teaching, a Level B academic will make an independent contribution through professional practice and expertise and coordinate and/or lead the activities of other staff, as appropriate to the discipline. A Level B academic will normally contribute to teaching at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level, engage in independent scholarship and/or research and/or professional activities appropriate to their profession or discipline. They will normally undertake administration primarily relating to their activities at the institution and may be required to perform the full academic responsibilities of and related administration for the coordination of an award program of the institution
A Senior Lecturer (Level C) academic will make a significant contribution to the discipline at the national level. In research and/or scholarship and/or teaching they will make original contributions, which expand knowledge or practice in their discipline. A Level C academic will normally make a significant contribution to research and/or scholarship and/or teaching and administration activities of an organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area at undergraduate, honours and postgraduate level. They will normally play a major role or provide a significant degree of leadership in scholarly, research and/or professional activities relevant to the profession, discipline and/or community and may be required to perform the full academic responsibilities of and related administration for the coordination of a large award program or a number of smaller award programs of the institution.
Your Key responsibilities will include –

Development, delivery, assessment, review, and coordination of the unit BIO247 Biochemistry, as well as other units in the Genetics and Biotechnology major in the Bachelor of Biomedical Science, as required by the School.

Developing and extending a research program in biochemistry and/or medical biotechnology and/or related fields that complement the research activities of the School and University.

Developing strong industry linkages to enhance teaching experiences for students and/or grow research partnerships and collaborations.

Contributing to the activities required by the course and School to ensure ongoing review and improvements to the Bachelor of Biomedical Science and Genetics and Biotechnology major.

Lecturer (Level B): $115,512-$136,831 plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.
Senior Lecturer (Level C): $141,088-$162,403 plus 17% employer superannuation contributions.

What you’ll bring to the role:
- Professional experience in one or more areas of biochemistry and/or medical biotechnology and/or related areas such as molecular biology, molecular genetics, and/or bioinformatics.

Previous experience in the development, design, coordination, and delivery of undergraduate units in biochemistry and/or medical bioinformatics and/or related fields at the tertiary level.

An established or developing track record of research outputs in biochemistry and/or medical biotechnology and/or related fields.
-
An ability to teach into another area of the biomedical sciences, such as molecular biology, molecular genetics, structural biology, and/or related fields.
Specific Qualifications
Eligibility to be a member of a professional body, such as the Australian Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB), Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA), or related organization.
