Full Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate, reliable and dedicated male Support Worker to join a committed support team assisting a young adult living in Woy Woy on the Central Coast of NSW. This role focuses on delivering person-centred support that promotes independence, community participation and the achievement of individual goals.

This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about supporting people experiencing complex mental health challenges and who understand the importance of consistency, trust and relationship-building.

About the Role

You will provide practical and emotional support to assist the participant to live as independently as possible, build confidence within the community and achieve their personal goals.

The successful applicant will work alongside the participant, family and broader support network to provide stable, long-term support.

Emotional and Mental Health Support

The participant lives with a psychosocial disability and requires workers who can provide:

Trauma-informed support
Calm, consistent and reassuring assistance during periods of anxiety, withdrawal or low motivation
Understanding of mental health conditions including hallucinations, delusions, paranoia and negative symptoms
Strong communication and de-escalation skills
Support to recognise early warning signs of mental health decline and implement agreed support strategies
Encouragement to develop independence, resilience and life skills

Daily Living Support

Support may include:

Meal planning, cooking and food preparation
Grocery shopping and community errands
Household cleaning and maintaining routines
Budgeting and assistance with everyday financial tasks
Personal care prompting and self-care reminders
Medication prompting
Building routines that promote independence and wellbeing

Community Access Support

Support may include:

Attending appointments
Going to the gym and recreational activities
Participating in hobbies, interests or study opportunities
Developing social confidence and community connections
Reducing social isolation and increasing participation in meaningful activities

What We Are Looking For

We are particularly interested in support workers who are:

Experienced in psychosocial disability, mental health or recovery-focused practice
Patient, empathetic and emotionally mature
Reliable and committed to providing long-term consistency
Able to build genuine rapport and professional boundaries
Comfortable working collaboratively with family, clinicians and support networks
Preferably closer in age to the participant
Motivated to support capacity building rather than creating dependence

Essential Requirements

NDIS Worker Screening Check
Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
Current Driver Licence and reliable vehicle
National Police Check
NDIS Worker Orientation Module
Working rights in Australia

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Mental Health, Community Services or related field
Training in trauma-informed care
Mental Health First Aid
Experience supporting people with schizophrenia, psychosis or other psychosocial disabilities
