Position Title: Chef
Employment Type: Part-time
Location: The Coffee Club (Highpoint) Melbourne , Australia
Award/Classification: As per the Hospitality Industry (General) Award RIA
Reports To: Restaurant Manager

Position Overview

The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality dishes in accordance with restaurant standards. The role requires strong culinary skills, adherence to food safety regulations in Australia, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Kitchen Operations

Organise mise-en-place and ensure workstations are clean and stocked.
Monitor food storage, ordering, and inventory control to minimise waste.

Food Safety & Compliance

Follow all food hygiene standards as per Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).
Ensure proper handling, storage, and temperature control of food items.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with WHS (Work Health and Safety) guidelines.

Quality Assurance

Maintain high standards of food quality, taste, and presentation.
Conduct regular checks to ensure freshness of ingredients.
Adjust recipes or methods to meet customer dietary needs (e.g., vegan, gluten-free).

Teamwork & Communication

Collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth service.
Communicate effectively during service peaks and resolve kitchen issues promptly.
Promote a positive and professional work environment.

Qualifications & Experience

Previous experience as a Chef, Demi Chef, or Chef de Partie.
Knowledge of modern cooking techniques and contemporary food trends.
Understanding of Australian food safety standards (HACCP is an advantage).

Strong culinary skills and creativity.
Excellent time-management and organisational skills.
Ability to work under pressure during busy service periods.
Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Leadership ability and strong communication skills.

Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods.
