Position Overview
The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting high-quality dishes in accordance with restaurant standards. The role requires strong culinary skills, adherence to food safety regulations in Australia, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Kitchen Operations
- Organise mise-en-place and ensure workstations are clean and stocked.
- Monitor food storage, ordering, and inventory control to minimise waste.
Food Safety & Compliance
- Follow all food hygiene standards as per Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ).
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and temperature control of food items.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with WHS (Work Health and Safety) guidelines.
Quality Assurance
- Maintain high standards of food quality, taste, and presentation.
- Conduct regular checks to ensure freshness of ingredients.
- Adjust recipes or methods to meet customer dietary needs (e.g., vegan, gluten-free).
Teamwork & Communication
- Collaborate with kitchen and front-of-house teams to ensure smooth service.
- Communicate effectively during service peaks and resolve kitchen issues promptly.
- Promote a positive and professional work environment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Previous experience as a Chef, Demi Chef, or Chef de Partie.
- Knowledge of modern cooking techniques and contemporary food trends.
- Understanding of Australian food safety standards (HACCP is an advantage).
