The Clinical Midwife Specialist (CMS2) Lactation is a specialist role within the multidisciplinary Women’s and Children’s Health team at The Sutherland Hospital providing lactation and infant feeding support to women, babies and families across Women and Children’s health. The role provides advanced clinical care, education and specialist guidance to midwifery, nursing and medical staff, supporting evidence-based practice, safe and person-centered care, and positive breastfeeding outcomes. Working with a high degree of professional autonomy the CMS2 to the maintenance of Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) accreditation through staff education, promotion of BFHI principles, quality improvement initiatives and the integration of best practice breastfeeding and infant feeding practices across the organisation.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing. Please note we are not offering sponsorship for work rights for this position.

The ideal candidate will have:

Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA) and current NSW Driver's License (if required by service).

At least 3 years recent experience working in as a registered midwife with relevant Post graduate qualifications in lactation and or current enrolled in IBCLE Lactation course.

Demonstrated ability to manage complex clinical care and service delivery issues and problem solve through the development and use of clinical management plans

Demonstrated ability to exercise extended autonomy of decision making while working as part of a multidisciplinary team and apply professional and ethical boundaries when dealing with complex situations.

Demonstrated skills in the development & facilitation of patient and carer education [and staff as required]

Demonstrated high level written and verbal communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to identify key messages, issues and concerns when communicating with others.

Detailed knowledge and understanding of harm minimisation and evidence of leadership in safety and quality innovation.

Demonstrated competence in the use of health-related information technology.
