Accountant / Tax Associate Key Responsibilities

This role is responsible for assisting with bookkeeping, year-end accounts preparation, tax compliance, and preparation of supporting workpapers for a diverse range of clients.

1. Year-End Accounts & Financial Statements

Prepare and finalise financial statements and income tax returns.
Review client bookkeeping records and identify required adjustments.
Perform year-end reconciliations and account reviews.
Prepare supporting schedules and working papers.

Key tasks include:

Bank reconciliations
Debtor and creditor reconciliations
Fixed asset and depreciation schedules
GST reconciliations
General ledger review and analysis
Review of source documents against accounting records

2. Bookkeeping

Maintain accurate accounting records using cloud accounting software.
Process transactions and ensure data integrity.
Assist clients with bookkeeping queries and record management.

3. Tax Return Preparation

Prepare tax returns for Individuals, Companies, Trusts and Partnerships.
Analyse income, deductions and tax treatment of transactions.
Review supporting documentation and prepare tax working papers.
Assist with capital gains tax calculations and related schedules.

4. Business Activity Statements (BAS)

Prepare and lodge BAS and GST returns.
Review GST coding and eligibility of GST claims.
Analyse payroll information and available tax credits.
Assist with PAYG instalment variations based on business performance.

Essential Skills & Experience

Minimum 2+ years' experience in bookkeeping, accounting, or taxation.
Strong understanding of Australian accounting and taxation principles.
Demonstrated experience using Xero and QuickBooks is essential.
Ability to prepare financial statements, tax returns, BAS, and supporting workpapers.
Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
Ability to manage multiple clients and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
