Position Overview

The Assistant in Nursing (AIN) plays a vital role in supporting residents with daily living needs, promoting wellbeing, and maintaining a safe, respectful environment. This role is ideal for someone who understands culture and can communicate effectively with residents who speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin.

Key Responsibilities

Provide compassionate, person‑centred care to older residents in accordance with individual care plans.
Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), including:
Personal hygiene and grooming
Showering and toileting
Dressing
Mobility and transfers
Eating and drinking
Support residents with social engagement, emotional wellbeing, and culturally meaningful activities.
Observe, report, and document changes in residents’ health or behaviour to the Registered Nurse.
Maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for residents.
Follow all infection‑control, manual‑handling, and workplace health and safety procedures.
Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high‑quality care.
Respect and uphold residents’ cultural values, privacy, dignity, and rights at all times.

Essential Requirements

Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) or equivalent.
Current police check (or willingness to obtain).
Valid working rights in Australia.
Ability to work various shifts, including weekends and public holidays.
Genuine interest in caring for older people.

Highly Desirable

Ability to speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin to support communication with residents.
Understanding of Chinese cultural practices, traditions, and family dynamics.
Experience working in residential aged care.
Australian Permanent Residency or Citizenship, to support long‑term workforce stability and continuity of care.
