## Position Overview
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Geotechnical Engineer to join our team and contribute to the planning, analysis, and design of geotechnical solutions across a range of civil and structural projects. The successful candidate will apply their technical expertise to assess soil and rock behaviour, develop safe and effective foundation designs, and provide specialist advice throughout all phases of project delivery. This role suits an experienced engineering professional who thrives in both field and office environments and is committed to delivering high-quality outcomes on complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
## Key Responsibilities
- Conduct site investigations, including the collection of soil and rock samples at varying depths, to assess ground conditions and inform project design decisions.
- Perform laboratory and field testing on samples to determine strength, compressibility, permeability, and other geotechnical properties relevant to proposed structures.
- Analyse and interpret subsurface data to evaluate the behaviour of soil and rock under imposed loads, and calculate safe bearing capacities for a range of foundation types.
- Design above and below ground foundation systems, including shallow, deep, and piled foundations, ensuring compliance with relevant Australian standards and engineering codes of practice.
- Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, factual and interpretive, communicating findings, design recommendations, and risk assessments clearly to clients and project stakeholders.
- Provide geotechnical input during feasibility, design, and construction phases, offering specialist advice on earthworks, slope stability, retaining structures, and ground improvement techniques.
- Carry out stability analyses for embankments, cuttings, retaining walls, and other geotechnical structures using industry-standard software and analytical methods.
- Liaise with clients, structural engineers, project managers, and regulatory authorities to ensure geotechnical requirements are effectively integrated into overall project design and delivery.
- Supervise and review the work of junior engineers and field technicians, providing technical guidance and supporting professional development within the team.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure geotechnical recommendations are implemented correctly and conduct inspections or review contractor submissions where required.
- Identify and manage geotechnical risks, contributing to risk registers and advising on appropriate mitigation measures throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain accurate records of fieldwork, testing data, and project documentation in accordance with company quality management systems and industry standards.
## Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline from a recognised university.
- Demonstrated experience in geotechnical engineering practice, including site investigation, laboratory testing, analysis, and design.
- Proficiency in geotechnical analysis and modelling software such as Plaxis, Settle3, Slope/W, Sigma/W, or equivalent platforms.
- Sound working knowledge of Australian standards and guidelines relevant to geotechnical and foundation engineering, including AS 2870, AS 4678, and the Australian Geomechanics Society guidelines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to interpret complex subsurface data and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Proven ability to prepare clear, well-structured technical reports and present findings effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience collaborating across multi-disciplinary project teams.
- Current driver's licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
- Eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia, or current membership at an appropriate grade.
## Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or a related specialist field.
- Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia, or active progress towards chartership.
- Experience working across a range of sectors, including infrastructure, resources, residential, or commercial development.
- Familiarity with National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA) accredited laboratory procedures and testing standards.
- Exposure to contaminated land investigations or hydrogeological assessments.
- Experience with dynamic or static pile load testing and interpretation.
## Why Join Us?
- Be part of a collaborative and technically driven team that values innovation, professional growth, and delivering meaningful engineering outcomes across a diverse project portfolio.
- Access structured career development pathways and sponsorship towards Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation and ongoing professional development.
- Enjoy flexible working arrangements, including hybrid office and site-based options, supporting a healthy work-life balance.
- Competitive remuneration package with performance-based incentives and clear salary progression aligned to experience and contribution.
- Work on high-profile infrastructure and development projects that make a tangible impact on communities across Australia.
