The Northern Adelaide Local Health Network (NALHN) is seeking a Casual Spiritual Care Chaplain to provide compassionate, non-judgmental support to patients, families, and staff across the Adelaide Metro Northern region.
What You'll Be Doing
Working within a multidisciplinary care team at Lyell McEwin Health Service, you will offer spiritual and emotional care that honours the diverse backgrounds and beliefs of every person you meet. Your key responsibilities will include:
Providing individualised spiritual care to patients and their families during admission, crisis, end-of-life, and other significant moments
Collaborating with clinical and allied health teams to integrate spiritual care into holistic patient management
Supporting staff wellbeing through pastoral presence and referral pathways
Maintaining accurate documentation in line with SA Health standards and NALHN policies
What You'll Bring
A qualification in Theology, Chaplaincy, Pastoral Care, or a related discipline, or demonstrated equivalent experience
Endorsement or accreditation with a recognised professional chaplaincy body (such as ACPE or Spiritual Care Australia)
Experience providing care across diverse faith traditions and to people with no religious affiliation
A sound understanding of SA Health's commitment to culturally safe and person-centred care
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to hold space in emotionally complex situations
Current National Police Clearance and Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
To be eligible for this position, you must have:
One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education or the equivalent
Meets requirements for Membership with Spiritual Care Australia (Member)

In this role you will have strong interpersonal and communication skills which will enable you to successfully problem solve, resolve conflicts and negotiate, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations, whilst building and maintaining relationships. An ability to effectively manage multiple, diverse and competing priorities and demonstrated resilience within a stressful and complex environment is essential to this role.

Our Local Health Network Sites and Services:
NALHN provides a range of hospital (inpatient), outpatient, community and home-based services across multiple sites in Adelaide’s north and north-eastern suburbs, including Aboriginal health, mental health, and GP services.
Lyell McEwin Hospital – the major hospital in northern Adelaide for emergency care, complex and multi-day surgery, medicine, obstetric, paediatrics and outpatient services.
Modbury Hospital – a general hospital with emergency care, elective surgery, medicine, outpatient and sub-acute services, rehabilitation, geriatric and palliative care.
Mental Health Services – adult and older persons mental health services and statewide forensic mental health services, across hospital and community settings.
Watto Purrunna Aboriginal Primary Health Care Services – provides culturally responsive primary healthcare services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in-hospital and across four community sites.
Primary Health Care Services – including GP Plus sites at Elizabeth, Modbury and Gilles Plains.
